It looks like you all managed to learn something from the day's tuition. :driving:

I learnt not to do the figure of 8 too much as it makes you feel unwell for the rest of the day :rotfl:

Classic and New ages were both good.

Trevs electronics played up at one point when a reddy lit up on the dash. Reason? the ECU became slightly confused when the car changed direction in 4 nanoseconds and was traveling backwards at 110 mph due to a proper "blokes" spin out :driving:

Today was the first time I have had the opportunity of trying to find the limits. I normally look after the car when driving having a burst every now and again.

Deep down I knew it was going to quick but I was unsure of the limit level.

The car was good in the tight sections but after all the tight bends was that long sweeping right leading over to the long final straight... and that was totally insane. The car would be at home on proper circuits, it was totally crazy to drive in the fast sections.

Going through the time list after wards with Mark:-

1st run. 1:18secs (equal 1st white Evo 10)

2nd run. 1:17 fastest lap

3rd run. 1:17 fastest lap

4th run My time was 1:15 and the guy in the red Evo was 1:14.

and this point I adjusted my suspension from 25 to 35 ready and up for it in the 5th run.

5th run. Cancelled due to fading light and cold track conditions.

Chatting to the guy with the red Evo (1:14secs) and found out was running 470-490bhp plus trickydoo's.

Mike Wilds jumped in my car just before lunch & said "ok show me a fast lap" my reply was "only if you take me for a lap after wards". He said "I would love to" I gave it my best then swapped seats. Not one word was mentioned on the next lap, and f**k he drove that quick!.

After we had gone over the finish line we looked at each other (whilst both sporting a fantastic grin) and he said "f*****g awesome".

I made many mistakes and was changing at 6K on the straights (limiter at 7.5K) and I said to Mike that a 1:10 would not be a problem and he agreed.

He gave me one of his cards and said bring ot to Brands Feb 27th? 28th?

Never realised that Mike is one of the Uk's most experienced helicopter pilot trainers. Over 8000 flying hours!

Will be going to Brands possibly with slicks?

Good pics guys and gal

I enjoyed it alot but it was frustrating at times- I'm a bit of a slow learner so i would need 3-4 of these to master the skills at the very least- some people pick this things up quicker

When the guy took my car around with me as paasenger you can really see what the impreza can do in the right hands...

Heal and toe= hard (wet metal pedals and shoes don't help)- didnt really crack this in the 20 minutes!

Left foot braking= excellent I saw the entire benefit of that and used it all day (I made the mistake, and was warned, that you mustn't forget your left foot is on the brake and then slam it down cos you think it's the clutch!! (at about 60 around a right hander))

Cadence braking= (pumping the brakes) again useful stops the flipin aBs coming in too eagerly

The long bend = I enjoyed this (including my 360!! which confused my ECU for a minute and set the CEL off) I finally mastered the subtle op lock adjustments only then to muck up straightening her up again- frustrating!! I really could of done with more time to crack this - but it was coming

The figure of 8= hard to drift a 4wd car -even with the DCCD rolled all the way back i got it going but couldnt seem to hold it or cross it over to drift around the other way (lost a lot of time on this on my lap). It is possible as Stormy showed us in the Spec C

Steve and Skull's cars both showed us that the suspension upgrades can result in better performance/times - it is possible to have too much power on a short

course

Thanks to Steve and Susy for lugging my wheels, spotting the collar issue

Thanks to Ian for helping with my wheels

Hairy DJ for the brews and biscuits

The Evo guy for showing my his sequential gearbox ( er slightly sexy bit of kit!)

Thanks to Stormy and the other guys for the words of wisdom

I had a few pics will post them

On my birthday list- torque wrench

Looks like a great day, right on my doorstep too.

I'd be interested to know how they compared.

Granby: How did the Wagon perform? Any different characteristics to the Saloon?

Have you modified her in anyway? (I'm looking to get a Wagon) :)

The wagon performed fine, it was the person behind the wheel that didn't ;)

Don't think there is much difference between saloons & wagons as we were all spinning around :D

Have i modified it :) just a little bit :crying:

It is difficult (or unfair) to compare my classic to new ages. Ok the P1 was quicker than all new ages on the day BUT my classic is not standard.

I would have assumed the fastest new age was Eureka with a lap time of 1:20 BUT Steve's is not standard either.

My gut feeling is that an original "stock" P1 would still beat any new age despite some new age Impreza's having more torque & bhp.

Prodrive had a far larger input than Subaru to develop the P1. My original Prodrive suspension was superb in all conditions and out the factory done a 0-60mph in 4.6 (with many reputable claims saying it was under 4.6).

i must say after giving my car the thrashing of its very short life the p1 has totally different handling characteristics to the new agw as would the type r and 22b as the coupe set up balance and chassis is far superior to the new age and the difference in times shows this i think and clv s car is an outstanding piece of kit

i think this shows why all the time attack pros using the impreza use the coupe body and there are no new age in this class

having the plesure of owning both coupe and new age i personally think the coupe is the better car

if you want a demon buy a coupe (p1 type r 22b) if you want a quick cruiser that handles very well get a new age
