granby Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 It says no spectators on the manual... but that might just be on the airfield area Oops i should of read that
HairyDJ Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 As I read it, there is a warning that speccies will freeze their nuts off - implies that they are ok to come if daft enough It goes on to point out that instructors only no other pax while under instruction, and speccies not allowed on the exercise area (elfen safety innit) Having done one in the summer last year, then there were a couple of speccies (behind the line) in deck chairs with a picnic - be a bit brave to do that on Sunday in the cold though Last time we were able to top up with Shell nearby - M11 J7 - just head North up the A414 for a mile towards Harlow. Current weather forecast suggests clear and about 6C with very low wind, but bound to change by then.

T123VOR Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) Can't decide whether to buy another set of secondhand wheels/tyres for this... any idea how hard this is going to be on my tyres as i don't want to miss out cos i get worried about wearing my tyres out!! (you know me i like to worry) new tyres (if required)= say £500 S/H wheels/tyres= £200 Seems simple...... but if this day is going to eat a set of £500 tyres maybe i shouldnt be going I wanna drive like Ken though Edited December 4, 2008 by T123VOR
granby Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Get the second hand wheels & tyres then you won't have to hold back and worry about doing your tyres in

Have FUN and enjoy the day BIG TIME and worry about the tyres when you get home. And if the worst comes you can always miss the Christmas Meal and put the money towards some new tryes. Hope that ALL you guys have A GREAT DAY.
T123VOR Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I've emailed some guy about some will the STI standard alloys still fit with these lightweight extended nuts fitted on mine? I'd much rather go 100% on some spare wheels and not have to worry- but it's still more cash at Xmas time you see... Hoo- as for the meal i thought you were putting it on your company tab- 08 tax write off??

HairyDJ Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 had the same dilemma when i did my first one at Arundel. If you worry about your tyres during the day, then you simply won't push as much, or get as much from the day. I went for a second set of wheels and now get to retire road tyres to track and then rip them up without worrying how to get home legally / safely. Bonus is that I tend to have better road tyres and never waste money ripping up the best ones. Even got a third set now that I'm running winter tyres on - will drive down on them and then rip up the 18" Falkens all day. Ask Santa for a set of wheel bags - back in the SIDC shop and top kit for carrying your wheels on the back seat without making a mess. I think Hol was the man who showed me how to put a pair on each rear seat, then hold them in with seatbelt & cable ties. Also worth looking in Maplins for the cheap 12v wheel wrench, unless you're borrowing mine See you there Cheers, David
Scooby Hoo? Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Hoo- as for the meal i thought you were putting it on your company tab- 08 tax write off?? Amounts to about 15p this year
T123VOR Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Right thats settled then If this guy comes good and me nuts fit i'll get them Cheers y'all David it may be easier to use yours so i know what to do for next time (!!).....;-) I'm reet excited- hope this guy with the tyres is able to meet me after all this hahaha I wanna see Eury's and Fudge's horses released as well ...
T123VOR Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Assuming my nuts aren't too big i'll be grabbing some spare wheels tomorrow
granby Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Assuming my nuts aren't too big i'll be grabbing some spare wheels tomorrow Can't see your nuts being a problem
fudge Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I will be using the tyres that on on the car now. I need to feel the limits on the tyres that I use, and by replacing them with some cheap ones will not benefit the purpose of the event. Been viewing some footage of previous such events at North Weald on You Tube and it looks like there is one section whereby after some practice they were heading off down a long straight and taking a left hander pretty quick. What I did notice was out of all the runs (mostly in cars running an estimated 200bhp) only one driver used his brakes. I had the impression that they were instructed to either reach a certain speed before taking the left hand bend OR they were instructed not to brake prior to turning in. If it was the later of the two I have a feeling that you and I Eureka could be turning in at a high rate of knots! Should be a laugh. Are all of you taking your own crash helmets ? I am. This will be the first time I have driven the car in mode. Looking forward to it

eureka Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 your nuts will be fine trev mine are are the spare wheels post 05
T123VOR Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I would love to run it on my road tyres - i'm hearing your reason Fudge... BUT at £500 a go I can't justifiy it at this time of year- so i'd rather knacker some other tyres - they aren't cheap tyres they are pirelli p zero with good tread which are pretty good tyres- there will be a handling difference i admit but i doubt i'll drive as hard on the roads as when im on a trackbased scenerio I don't have my own helmet either Are these CG locks devices any good - they look useful?
eureka Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 piont being if you are driving that hard and manage a blowout it could be your rim you nacker too and finish your day
granby Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 You can try the CG locks on the day, i've got one and it does hold you in your seat

If it's still the same patch as a couple of years ago, then there was a course something like this : away from the assembly patch up a long narrow concrete road left up the slope onto tarmac to do the various twiddly bits back down the far side of the slope and sweep right into the road you entered by. The run back was the shaker, as there was a very solid gatepost to your left as you hit the concrete at 80+ One of the guys was running with his scanguage plugged in and i think it showed he clocked mid 90's as a top speed, so your big 'un should really fly. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=e...mp;t=h&z=16 "pits" is the patch top centre concrete road heads SSW from there exercise tarmac is bottom centre live runway for airyplanes runs up the left hand side btw site entrance was where the little red arrows are to the right. Presume you guys in the Kent convoy will be chattering on channel 1 all the way there?
