Another Remap...

I thought that all Andy was doing was removing almost all of the ignition advance from the engine at the the first 2 loads zones in the 2000-3500 rpm zones?causing more unburnt fuel to escape into the exhaust system?

No much more than that though? I'm sure Andy can confirm/deny that.

Correct Russell but you can choose the rev range, i had between 2500 - 4500rpm.

ScoUK - You can either have pops and bangs or not, doesn't matter if you have a dual map. I had 2 map settings but could not stop the pops and bangs. Also you cannot have mild or full on, it's all or nothing!

Hmnnn. sounds like both your map settings were programmed to pop and bang.. Unless there was somethign more mechanical causing it or, I guess if an addon to the ECU was uploaded as opposed to just a basic Map tweaking that'd make it set for both.. I can load a very primitive form of launch control onto mine as an "addon" but havent because I can't switch it off on demand without a reflash..

I thought pops and bangs came from modifying the fuel/timing tables... in which case for dual map option youd have completely seperate tables.. But from what you say it does sound more like an "addon" ...

Interested to know for sure....

The way I understand it... which could be wrong... is that when the throttle is closed the car goes into closed loop and doesn't use any meaningful amount of fuel because its not under load. This gives better fuel economy/emissions as standard.

What happens with the Pops and Bangs is that when the throttle is closed within 'the zone' where the popping happens (also 2500-4500 on SpecG), instead of going into closed loop, Andy has opened up the table and is telling the ecu to put more fuel in and together with a dab of Forrest Witchcraft, produces the effect shown in the videos above.

Both maps were set for pops and bangs as that is the only way he can do it. Once set the only way to prevent them is to stay under the rev zones or hold in your clutch.

Unfortunately, the hawkeyes dont have the dual map thingy available, to have the "pops and bangs" on / off if that was possible.

Im thinking I might go for low level pops and bangs!

Al/ScoUK, I had the Turbosmart dump valve on at thtat RR day when I flamed the poor kids lol!, think I might have had turned so it was too hard though, hence pop/flame!

I currently have the HKS SSQV and the car doesnt quite pop as much.

You can't get low level pops and bangs. Andy can only map them in or not, the level of noise will vary from car to car.

Yea, you can get various levels of over-run mate... at least you can on Hawkeyes, as I had some low level stuff mapped in but decided very quickly (within 60secs) while I was getting the car remapped that I wanted more, much more. ;)

i had the pops and bangs for a few months, was fun for a while but kinda gets to you after a while, draws even more attention to your already attention seeking car, some of the bangs are like explosions and can certainly cause pedestrians to jump out their skin

it is especially challenging when you get tailed with traffic cops, you will be craping yourself not to let out a pop or bang,

anyway eventually my exhaust housing on my AFP 20g was cracked and had to be rebuilt, not 100% sure if the pops and bangs caused this but turbo was only 1 year old ;)

so 2 + 2 = 4 in my book

Suppose it depends upon how much ignition advance Andy pulls out as well as a few other things (DECAT or not)
