spannaz Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Just bought some guages, alas not those very expensive Deffi one's but never the less, new with all the connections etc. However, as many of you have probably done this before, is there anything i should look out for or purchase before attempting to install them? anyone wishing to volunteer their help will be gladly rewarded with bacon rolls, coffe and alcohol! lol

spannaz Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 dont use a sandwich plate for your oil mate they leak. get a adaptor kit and use no 3 cylinder for temp when are you fitting them may pop over Probably not til the weekend or maybe friday if i have no work come through before then. bu only if its not freezing bloody cold as electrical work and cold never a good mix, but the i can always chuck some warm heaters towards the car................................who cares about energy crisis!!! now which adaptors will i need as i'll be fitting boost oil temp and oil pressure, i noticed on fleabay there is one for the oil temp but 2 types for the oil pressure, a T piece type and an adaptor. Might even get wife to do fully english if it is a bit chilly lol she good at doing that for large numbers as we found out before !!!
kentperformance Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 The only thing I would say is make sure that the oil pressure is electrical rather than mechanical. The ones that have the pipe thru to the car are a disaster waiting to happen imo, and if you get a sandwich plate, get a good one like Mocal, as they do not tend to leak like the cheap ones do.

PR08RAD Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 ooooh gauges this sounds cool! been thinking about them to replace clock on dash, cant wait to see yours. I will more than willingly lend a hand, although i am totally clueless, and your kids could probably manage more than me lol. but just give me a shout.

pmacFTO Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 The only thing to know is that they will generate large amounts of paranoia over a short space of time

turismo Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 got my gauges from gaugeplace. also got a fitting kit from them that does away with the sandwich plate. its basically a braided hose with a thread at one end and a t-piece at the other, the t-piece screws onto where the original oil switch is, the oil switch then screws into the t-piece. then just screw the other end to the sender. a lot easier to fit and no leaks or mess as you dont have to remove the oil filter. deano666 fitted mine give him a call....
spannaz Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 Righta, after fits of uncontrolable laughter, these are back in the box and going back to where they came from. How some people can say these need slight mod to fit and think that acceptable is anyones idea. The pod had only 2 laughable clips to hold it in, and even then it never fitted by a long way. The guages were "ok" but really couldn't have ssen them staying. So i think i need some prosport guages or something like that (unless anyone is selling Deffi's cheap) and a proper mounting pod and we'll go from there lol you live and learn!

Now you know why Defi come in at around the £500 mark. Like you, I would like to go the gauge route but might have to just settle for the twin speedo surround mounts as I can make do with boost and oil pressure. When I win the Lottery this weekend I'll treat you to a set of Defi's

The worst thing really is the state of the pod. How anyone can sell these even remotely thinking they are goint to fit really does amaze me. Have seen a rather neater looking version at scoobyparts, all be the best part of £90 but then even deffi's in a cheap surround will look pants, so might as well start right. Seem's no end of "bad" buys this week, Rear ARB- to wide, guages-crap, and possibly the TEIN springs i got may also be diff for a wagon, mind the springs were a bargain at £20! lol

spannaz Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 all gauges bar defi will need a sligh mod to fit and all pos non ever fit proper you will have to trim to fit wouldnt it be boring if everything was easy to fit oh i'd be happy with a bit of trimming, but the guy was suggesting I "glue" the pod to the dashboard!!! Told him he was mad, but he rekons that's what your suppose to do, so again pointed out the nearest loony bin! Will now purchase the "proper" item from Scoobyparts, and start again!
PR08RAD Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 unlucky fella. maybe you should better spend your time trying to fit some electric mirrors lol lok straightforward swap. its just getting off door cards which im not sure how easy to do?
spannaz Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 unlucky fella. maybe you should better spend your time trying to fit some electric mirrors lollok straightforward swap. its just getting off door cards which im not sure how easy to do? weellllllllllllllllllllllllll, it might not be all bad, as i only paid £80 for the guages, the guy has so far offerred me back £35 as the pod is useless, however, i am sticking to my guns and want £45 towards new pod or he can simply have them back. I don't mnd either way as i have now got another set of gauges anyway lol
PR08RAD Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 you didnt hang about getting new gauges then lol
spannaz Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 you didnt hang about getting new gauges then lol it was actually pure bloody chance to be honest, and the fact i had the day off!

spannaz Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 Rear ARB to wide!!!, i fitted one from a STi first and had no problems then i got a Perrin one which also fitted fine yeah this is 24 mm and from a 2003 saloon. Think it bolts to the Outside of the links rather than the inside due to the size of the bar! compared to the standard one...... its HUGE!!!
PR08RAD Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 is the wagon not slightly different then ? Sorry to thread hi jack, but does any one know if its easy to get the front door cards off? anything to be aware off, breaking clips and such like?
