GJLATZ Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Hello all, After washing, checking levels etc took the scoob out for a run (03 MY). Luckily I was only doing 40mph (warming up) when the bonnet sprung to the 2nd catch. Could have been dangerous at speed. Anyone else experienced this with this model ? I always let the bonnet drop down to close and it's always been fine..... Only difference this time was that the bonnet was up for a couple of hours because I was giving the battery a trickle charge.... G

C_WRX Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Habit I've got in to is last thing I do after the bonnets been open is go back and re-check. Bad experience learnt from : Quite a fright when the bonnet flies all the way open !! Was quite a few years ago, below zero and had been snowing in days leading up to then, about 8pm at night, reckon 50mph - huge bang and it's just like if the headlights go out ! Luckily was on a straight bit of road and could just see through gap at base of windscreen to get the car in to the side of the road. My mothers car and she was in passenger seat - supposedly first time she'd heard me swear like that ! My Dad's fault as he'd been checking oil/water that day !
ur.a.bus Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 the day before the mcrae gathering i opened my bonnet to check the fluids and when i closed my bonnet it would'nt lock (glad i never left checking fluids till the gathering morning) took off the lock dropped it in a bucket of de greaser over night and the next day i was like new, re greased it and it's been fine ever since. think my problem was a build up of the white grease and alot of mick stuck to it jamming it.
