scooby222 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 the other halfs integra was in for a service today and the garage had it valeted whilst it was there unbknown to us. just had a look at it in the garage under lights and the whole things covered in swirl marks-it wasnt perfect before but it was a hell of a lot better as i did it a few weeks ago with clay bar and jeff werkstat acrylic kit. its pretty much all surface marks but its the whole of the car never having used an aggressive clay and machine polish before,is it worth tackling myself or better to get a pro? and if so any volunteers in the central belt?
thefastone Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I think that its an easy enough job to do your self if your up for it mate, but perhaps to buy the kit is not the cheapest and I think that it takes time and... If you go to polished bliss' website there are some very good step by step guides for how to do it, you can also buy all the gear that you need from them too... Link for Polished Bliss: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/ and their how-to guides: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/guides.html
craig79 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Think from memory, Honda has quite soft paint thus making it that wee bit easier to correct by hand using a foam applicator and the relevant polish (although still quite a task). PM Blue Dragon on here I would imagine he would at least give you a bit of guidance if you didn't want to shell out the readies for someone like him to do it for you. To buy a polisher and the min kit to do the job without killing your arms would be about £200 (this includes a G220 polisher),so it's really up to you mate if you want to get the gear. You can always work on family / friends cars to recoup some of your cash Craig.
scouk Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Is that just swirls on the surface or small scratches on the topcoeat?? (I.e. sponge washing) If it's swirls, a quick clean and possibly a quick polish to clean up the paint would normally sort that out.. For the minor swirly scratches you'll need to dig out some more abrasive polish other than a glase I use Poorboys SSR2.5 for cobwebbby scratches.. Works a treat.. Can easily be worked in by hand using a foam pad.. THat should be enough to get rid of the marks. If you were up north, I could maybe be persuaded to let you have a shot of my machine polisher Got any photos you can post up?

colzo Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 You have 2 options. Mask the swirls or remove them. For masking AG SRP is apparently the best, for removal the only real option is a machine polisher with a specific pad/polish combo.
C_WRX Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Sounds like swirls if you think it is just surface (need pics to be sure). You thought about a decent aggressive polish, as others have suggested, and work on a panel by hand and see how it is both look and if your arm nearly dropped off !! Have also heard, as noted, Honda paint can be softer to work with so might not be too bad. The Werkstatt acrylic is good stuff ain't it - use it on all the cars I've worked on (except my own black one). MikeM is also an option, Stirling based.
Mike M Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Hi mate. as said I'm in Stirling and if you're close by could come and have a look if you like. I'm no pro, just a happy amateur, but the best way to sort swirls is by machine and I could give you some pointers if you like Regards Mike
