scouk Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 One of the best tests for testing shocks is to push down on one corner of the car at a time. (ideally just above the strut) First time the car will squish and lift back to origonal position.. If it bounces back more than once that's an indication ithe stock is stuffed. Once it's settled, Immediately try pressing down a second time, it should be much more difficult to push down on the car.. Do this for every corner.. If the shock is completely stuffed you will find that the car is really bouncy when you push down on it.. And it wont settle smoothly.. Not entirely scientific, but a good quick test...
Guest greegsy Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Well my GB270 is going into dealers on Thurday as I noticed a "clunk" every now and then from front nearside. Turns out I have 2 faulty shocks front nearside and rear offside but they are only going to replace the 2 faulty ones - sounds a bit dodgy to me but I was told that it's subaru policy to only replace the damaged shocks......
Joe G Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I replaced both my rear shocks 7000miles ago and im beginning to hear a faint knock from the rear offside AGAIN. Coilovers this time for sure!!!
fpan Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) I replaced both my rear shocks 7000miles ago and im beginning to hear a faint knock from the rear offside AGAIN. Coilovers this time for sure!!! Pushing the car down above the shock absorber it is very stiff but I have a knocking from the front when going over a certain speed bump (in fact it is more like a gap on the road like this ----__----). How did you guys (or the dealer) diagnose a faulty shock? When I took the car for the 30k km service I told the dealer to check and he said everything was fine. Thanks Edited November 13, 2008 by fpan
