Interim Service Advice

Recommended Posts

My car was out on the road in November 2005 – which makes it a late blob. When I got the car it had 14000 miles (december 2007) on the clock and had been given it’s 20,000 mile service, it’s now done 23k miles and don’t want to leave it until the 30k mile service interval.

I have enquired to a couple of dealers who have quoted £190 for a interim service… seams a bit steep? Should I do this or just go to my local friendly garage and have the oil & filter changed? I also want a pre warranty expiry check done, however this can wait until the MOT needs doing…

All advice welcome..

I do about 8k to 9k a year with my Bugeye and have an extra oil change done halfway between yearly services. Costs about £70 for fully synthetic oil and filter at an independant.

Should really learn how to do it myself!

Hmm, filter £8 and oil about £40 if you do it yourself (depending on oil)

Only issue i found doing my blob is actually getting the filter off. Didn't remove the undertray and trying to get through the wee access panel is a mare! Probably a good trick somewhere but i didn't find it!

Worth the effort for peace of mind though.

Over the last 2 years I've gone through much the same. Low mileage and had it serviced each year / 10k miles by Subaru while still under warranty but when due next year I will go the independant route. Also had it in at its 3year service to be checked over before the warranty ran out - but guess anyone could do that for you.

Sure I read it on here that it is worth while having the oil changed half way between services (6 months or 5k miles) so I get that done too. Can't remember how much I paid last time but it is at least half of your stealers quote....come to think of it my last yearly service wasn't too far away from that price, they might have mis-quoted??

thanks guys - think I will go to my local gargae - who I know and trust to get an Oil & Filter Change then take it to a dealer for the warrenty check and get them to do the MOT at the same time.

Cheers
