craig79 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Direct Line you gotta love 'em, toerags just upped my premium by £150 Did everything by the book; informed them of all mods as they were done, they said at the time that they didn't effect the premium that much (which was right it only crept up a few quid at a time). But this year whallop !! Anyways has anyone had any good deals from anywhere recently that I could give a go ?? Quick recap; 29yrs young, 03 wrx with all the usuals (map, springs etc), 8 yrs ncd, protected, tracker, minimal miles, garaged - DL wants £656 ?? Sorry for the ramble people Craig.
paul555sti Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Give APlan a try. http://bbs.scoobynet.com/insurance-19/4453...-insurance.html

Cheers 5t, have heard he's a friggin' nightmare to holds of tho. Will give Keith Michaels a go aswell then. Again have you had long term dealings with that lot, customer service is kinda important for me ? Craig.
hosstheboss Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I have used A Plan for the last two years and got the best deal i could find through them for my RB320. £396 but i'm a good bit older than you (47).

Again have you had long term dealings with that lot, customer service is kinda important for me ? Craig. I got him no problem. Quote was good. Paperwork out nice and speedy. No issues. Of course i haven't made a claim (touch wood) and that's when customer service really comes into it but as for the 'buying expereince' no problems at all. I had a-Plan on my FTO they were great for a year then tried to jack the price right up for the second year so I left quick smart! 5t.
paul555sti Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Cheers Paul, have you had recent dealings with them ??Craig. Yes i am with them just now and my insurance is due again. I got my renewal through and it was going to be increased by 110 quid. They had shopped around and found a company that was willing to do it for less than last year! I am a bit older than yourself and my car is on a limited mileage policy but they are worth a call.
craig79 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks for that lads, just tried APlan; closed with the english holiday and all that will try again tomorrow tho Craig.
C_WRX Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Just renewed mine a few weeks ago, stayed with Keith Michaels after trying numerous other places. Moley seems best to get there, if you don't already have this number try it for him - 02083291167.
Typer666 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Have you tried getting a quote with direct line online - Insurance companies sell their online policies with very little or no commission, come renewal they whack the commission on. ** They make most of their money from products they sell so there is room for negotiating on product prices if you ask** I would recommend trying ( will take a few hours but worth the savings): 1) Adrian Flux - really good for mods, know their stuff and cover like for like 2) A-plan - as previous suggested 3) Sky insurance 4) Admiral group - bell, elephant, admiral 5) Admiral 6) The aggregator sites Gocompare, confused and moneysupermarket. Dependant on the amount of modification you have you might be limited to call centre rates as many of the online search engines will only quote for a certain number of modifications.
sti pretender Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Insured with KM made a claim February no issue and good to deal with (approved repairers were terrible 12weeks to repair - but not insurers fault) Just got my renewal that I was dreading and same as last year, had done a search last week and cheapest was £100 more. Also KM do a mirror policy so Type R is with them as well.
craig79 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 Thats brilliant lads thanks for all that. Will prob have to give most of them a try tomorrow me thinks with the holiday. Did use the on line quote was very cheap but once you start adding the mods on it just shoots up. A wee tip for people like myself that pay monthly with DL - don't just let your renewal run because as a new customer you're entitled to 0% on your payments and if you just let it continue the interest is added on thus increasing your anual premium
man-with-men Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I wouldnt use anyone but Elephant. Simply cos i know they are really really god when things go wrong and the price i found...is unbeatable. When i had my STI wi the mods declared, at a younger age than you with similar no claims, it was about 600. Give them a try online and pay in a onner if you can and im sure you wont be dissapointed. G'Ball

man-with-men Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Cheers mate, away to give them a go now.Craig. Good luck. Set your excess to some obscene figure as well, like 750 or something as that helps if a little outrageous
craig79 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 Good luck. Set your excess to some obscene figure as well, like 750 or something as that helps if a little outrageous Gave them a go but I couldn't proceed due to them needing 'more information on my car' ?? Will phone tonight when I get home . Craig.
craig79 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Still waiting for confirmation from elephant but as it stands APlan is no bad at all. £579, protected fc with 300 excess. Phoned Direct Swines and they weren't prepared to match - oh well outta their pocket and into APlans Craig.
craig79 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Anything from KM?5t. Yeah mate they were after £625ish basically a baw hair less than DL. If i'm honest, didn't get a great vibe fae them I know that Garry Moulson is meant to the 'boy' over there but it wasn't him I spoke to. Craig.

martin_allen Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 You get a discount if your an SIDC member. Saved me £50 last year Plus you need to insist on speaking to Gary as the others don't handle the discounts. Might not be able to do anything noww but if you are registered on Scoobynet you could drop him a PM there. 5t.
RA Dunk Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 insured the RA last week with KM 472 all in with ALL MODS declared, never had any problems getting in touch with gary to date
craig79 Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 Just a wee update; eventually went with APlan. 580 all in, they were going to be adding 10 ~ 12% interest due to the monthly payments but managed to work them down For comparison purposes did forget to mention the 4 pts (sp30) that I have this is prob where the difference is coming in compared to some folks, ah well. Thanks again for the info people; just the mot to go now Craig.
