enCrypt Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 Hi Manxman, Just found this ole thread o mine... Ive not had mine sorted yet either. Have you had yours done yet? Its a scary amount of money to be honest so Im holding off as long as poss! Its also due a service soon so that'll be another 300 or so... Scoobies eh? Who'd have em?! Mark...
CustomScoobyIOM Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Whats actually wrong with your boxes guys? Crunching gears? Crap syncros or not? £900 you can get a used box for alot less than that. Unless you have the DCCD. THen it becomes expensive
enCrypt Posted March 18, 2005 Author Posted March 18, 2005 Hi Jon, Good to hear from you again mate! Mine is difficult to get into 1st and reverse when cold, but slackens up once warm. Does a strange thing where it holds the revs up going from 2nd to 3rd even when my clutch is down causing a lurch to the car when Im bringing the clutch up into 3rd (bit hard to explain this one!) And going from 4th to 5th crunches everytime but only once warm. If I double clutch it up its better but still there slightly. And yes I have the DCCD and Quickshift etc etc Cheers Mark...
CustomScoobyIOM Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Hi mate, You too hope you are well! << Mine is difficult to get into 1st and reverse when cold, but slackens up once warm. >> Common problem on all Scooby boxes mate << Does a strange thing where it holds the revs up going from 2nd to 3rd even when my clutch is down causing a lurch to the car when Im bringing the clutch up into 3rd (bit hard to explain this one!) >> Sounds like a sticking throttle position sensor or something like that. Nothing major there mate. << And going from 4th to 5th crunches everytime but only once warm. If I double clutch it up its better but still there slightly >> Ah right! This might NOT be a syncro problem though it still could be... On the 99 onwards classic boxes sometimes one of the nuts becomes loose and becomes a PITA. Remove and refit the uprated item from Subaru and it cures it. Worst case if it is the syncro it is a £300 job for removal, fix, new nut on anyway and all back in. So not a fortune really.
Manxman Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Well the deeds been done ! Have had the gearbox built by API (Excellent company to deal with!) so far no problems, and hopefully there wont be either ! The only downside is whilst the box is cold its not the smoothest change, but there is a big difference when warm, sweeeeeeeet.............. The down side to all this is that I might have to now sell the car to pay for for the job, what with the cost of the box, carriage both ways and fitting Will keep you all posted on any developments.
enCrypt Posted July 17, 2005 Author Posted July 17, 2005 Hi Mate, Glad to hear its been sorted. Did you do it through Paul @ South Coast or not? And dare I ask how much it was ?! (reply direct to my email if you want...) Cheers Mark...
Manxman Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Mark, Got the box done by API as an exchange - I would recommend them - very easy to deal with and the box is still working !! this cost £550+vat with carriage costing a further £100+vat(ish) API arranged all the carriage. I then got Southcoast to drop out the old box and fit the new one - with oil etc I think he charged me about £250 incl VAT - was in and out the same day. The total invoice for everything was a couple of £££'s over £1,000 (£1,064 I think). API give the box a 6 month 6,000 mile warranty - hopefully I wont need it. If you need any other info, just ask. On to the brakes now............!!!!!!
