wilky Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Thats me done about 500 miles on the 888s in both the wet and the dry and I have to say they are awesome. I have 235/ 40/ 18s and in the dry the handling is razor sharp and what you would expect from a tyre a grade softer than what im used to and putting down more surface contact. In the wet they are good as well PROVIDING YOU HAVE WARMED THEM UP FIRST. From cold if pushed they will let go, but once you have a bit of heat in them they are excellent. If you are concidering a set and dont mind the fact that they will wear out a bit quicker than your average tyre I would say go for it. I wont be having them on the car in the winter however. speech Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Would definately agree with you there bud, when I had my alloys off being powder coated WUZ was kind enough to lend me a set of his with brand new R888's on! Had them on for just over a week and during that time managed to try them out in both wet and dry and was surprised at how well they coped in the wet. In the dry however - simply Awesome!
WUZ Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Had them on for just over a week and during that time managed to try them out in both wet and dry and was surprised at how well they coped in the wet. In the dry however - simply Awesome! I noticed that............................................... by the amount of tread left when they were returned to me. PMSL - only joking Stu. Surprising good in the wet - ONCE WARMED UP AS CALLUM RIGHTLY STATES - but never run them when it is wet and cold (below 6 Degrees) or you'll see the ugly side of these tyres. Russell
gambler Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 I ran them in the wet at knockhill when it was only a couple of degrees above freezing. Comedy bad is the only word for it. It was a good laugh, just no grip what so ever. I did change them for my spare wheels which have T1r's after that. Massive improvement. They do have excelent grip in the dry though. They also take a lot longer to overheat than normal road tyres. Ususally dropping a couple of PSI helps this. The edges do go a cool purple colour when they get really hot Scott

Russell I'm surprised you managed to test them when warm then, as any time I've been up north it always seems to be wet and less than 6 degrees

emoe Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Do you guys rate these over the Yokahama Pradas or the Toyo proxies? I fancy trying these out
eurosti Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Just been to a tyre dealer myself R888 and RE070 are now illegal in Germany Had to settle for Vredestein Ultrac Sessansa,s instead.
emoe Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Just been to a tyre dealer myself R888 and RE070 are now illegal in Germany Had to settle for Vredestein Ultrac Sessansa,s instead. OOo that sucks Stu!
WUZ Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 (edited) Just been to a tyre dealer myself R888 and RE070 are now illegal in Germany Stu - now that presents a problem.......those of us who come over to the "Ring" with RE070's and R888's, are PLOD able to stop us and charge us with a motoring offense based on us driving on their roads with these tyres? Could be lots of people in trouble, based on the last R888 count at the Ring last time we were there, we're talking about 150-200 cars that weekend alone! Russell Edited August 1, 2008 by WUZ

Thats the way i look at it Whats the point in having tyres that will go round the world but try and kill you at the first bend !!! Good choice faither Edited August 1, 2008 by Jcscoob
RA Dunk Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 i bought a set of three weeks ago for trackdays, had them on the car scrubbing them in since and have been than impressed with them, now too try em on track next but dont think i should expect any problems going by the write ups ive seen

Russell I asked this as most of you will be aware Cars that drive on the Ring must be road legal in country of Registration! So you lot will be fine. Basically the TUV cert has been removed from these said tyres so dealers will not sell them to the public. I was talking to german copper mate of mine who runs a newage, he has RE070 on his, he is not changing them until they are done! Just be aware i had a noise check last week at the Ring and failed at 101.5 db! They had the kit out all day targeting Scoobs Evos and Skylines, oddly enough all with UK plates even though there were plenty of foreign Scoobs n Evos there. It passed with the Bung in at 95.3 he wavered the .3 after i told him he wasnt testing correctly. He had the meter basically inside the backbox!
ScoobySounds Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Do you guys rate these over the Yokahama Pradas or the Toyo proxies?I fancy trying these out I was going to ask the same thing... anyone?
wilky Posted August 3, 2008 Author Posted August 3, 2008 I was going to ask the same thing... anyone? Prada is a road tyre that is good for going fast and is fairly good on track. Toyo T1S / T1R are good road tyres that go well on track. T1S are rubbish in the winter, T1R are pretty good in the winter.. R888 are slicks made road legal. Breathtaking in the dry, good in the wet when warmed up and in the summer. To be avoided at all costs in the winter. Callum W
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Callum - I saw you in Aberdeen about a week ago in said beast ? Confirm sighting of the weapon or be forever sideways ? What brought you to such a latitude anyhow sir ? Cheers Calum with one L
john_mchutchison Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 T1R are pretty good in the winter.. Callum W have to add my bit here, T1R are VERY good in Winter when it is wet, but avoid snow at all costs as i found out last winter, VERY poor.
