Cel Error Code O2/afr Sensor

Posted something similar in Strictly Technical but got no response as yet, But I know some of you guys have gotten your hands dirty so I'll try here..

COuple of times recently I've had the CEL code P1139 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Now from my understanding (which may be flawed) this is the o2 sensor on the headers just before the up-pipe (the awkward one) Whcih unfortuantely helps control the AFR. However I also believe that hte sensor has a built in heater element to help it heat up quickly without initiall relying on exhaust gases..

Now the CEL has only come on within 2 minutes of startign the car but by the time I get home and check it the CEL is no longer shows an active code but remains in the history so it's not a permanent error.

Now given the error description I reckon the sensor itself is fine, but the heating element part is slightly duff..

Thing is, how much harm is it likely to cause.. Any suggestions as to what may cause this, any way to test the sensor?.. And finally if a replacment is in order how much do those suchers cost!? and where from?

O2 sensors only work right when the get up to the 600 - 800 c range so the element helps it on its way until EGT is sufficient to carry it aloong without the heating element. Now with the element being duff then it will be pumping in more fuel to compensate for longer so a replacement would be the order of the day.

Bite the bullet and get a proper OE one as the non std ones are prone to rapid failure

D'oh! How much £££ we talking from a OEM one dealer or similar?

In saying that just got one of my most economical tanks of fuel ever.... Hmmnn...

Still would't mind testing it first... Removed the up-pipe couple months ago which may have disturbed it..

We put one on Nicky's old car/scoobysailors new car just before he bought it, and it was going to be at the higher end of 300 bangers ;) , but a Xsubaru employee/good guy got us it a bitty cheaper ;) .

sorry never seen your link. At 150 cant be bad, considering! ;)

Yeah Given dealers are asking a heck of a lot more it's a good price... But always nice to know if you can get them cheaper still :hyper:

Anyone for a group buy! ;)
