probably a circuit inside the ecu, could be voltage regulator, but without proper knowledge of the insides of the ecu could be hard to diagnose

best course is either send it to someone who can repair/investigate or buy a new one

cant loose map as far as i am aware

UK car or import?

Relevant question as the UK car need to have the CAM ond CRANK sensor wiring into ECU swapped whereas the WRX STi does not.

Worth thinking about when checking the ECU.

there was a fault with the maf!!!!!! go figure when plugged standard ecu car ran fine john must be something to do with apexi being bit more sensitfive(spelling not worth jack $hit)so trigger safe mode and shut doon the bloody lot not good when in middle of a roundabout than standard ecu as i have changed maf and car running like the wee sweetie she is.
