fattb
At my last service the dealer said the turbo heatshield was bit loose and that they would tighten it up at the next service as it was a fiddly job ! Anyhow i had forgotten all about it up until today when i noticed a rattle coming from under the bonnet, you can see the heatshield is buggered now, and i found a piece of cladding that could of been part of it but I'm just not sure Any ideas on how easy/expensive these are to replace and should the car be ok to run minus this piece of shielding, i know its only a small part but i guess it was there for a reason ! enclosed a few pics The yellow circle is roughly where i found the cladding bit the offending piece ! Oh the car is an 05 STI Edited July 12, 2008 by fattb Link to comment
emoe
i removed mine and wrapped the turbo and downpipe with heatwrap. Works better in my experience. Link to comment

pistonbroke2
Don't think you'll have a problem running without it, only thing is underbonnet temp may rise a bit causing slight, but not noticable performance drop. My old MR2 turbo had no turbo heatsheild on it, the result was that on long motorway drives, the turbo would boil and evaporate the clutch fluid in the pipe where it passed close to the turbo. The result meant that as you approached a junction/roundabout the clutch pedal would stick to the floor and be useless unless pumped vigourously. First few times it was quite scary Link to comment
