Boost Gauge Question

Was driving along the road tonight and noticed that my Boost Gauge wasn't moving at all, I'm pretty sure it went up and down with the revs. Anyway, once I got to a quiet stretch of road I put the foot down and when I hit boost, the gauge came on line but only went to about 1.4 (usually 1.5). Soon as I came off-boost, the indicator again sat motionless at zero. When I turned the car off and then on again, the other two guages did their opening ceremony thing, but the boost guage was still stuck on Zero - any suggestions, or is it a case of replacing the gauge?

thanks! :D

Check all the corrections (wires and hoses) first John. If its working "a bit" then it sounds like a connection rather than being gubbed.

F**k... sucks to be you by the sounds of it... if you didn't have bad luck you'd have none at all.

Generally (IME) you should get negative boost at idle and +ive once above a certain rev range, as some people have said, could be an electrical issue if it's not moving at all.

Well it's kinda starting working intermittently while I was reving in the driveway on its way into the garage - pfff who knows! I'm taking it to Meercat tomorrow afternoon to get my brokentail pipe replaced, so I'll have a look at it then during the extended run.

You don't have an air leak in the pipework do you? Would imagine that an airleak could leave the system sitting at zero pressure regardless of the actual boost at any time. Would be worth checking all of your connections to/from the gauge.

Ok, I'll have a look even though I don't have the first clue what I'm looking for!!!! :D

I might sound like I know WTF I'm talking about but I'm not that different to you :D

Just have a quick check of all airlines to/from the boost gauge to see if there are any splits/leaks in the system.

Is the car hunting (revs going up and down by themselfs at idle) if yes then chances are the vacuum pipe from the dumpvalve has come off/split/cut ect. if its not huntting then the pipe could have collapsed by heat/vacuum/crushed ect.

Why not electrics.. a boost gauge is a mechancal gauge not electronic(not counting defi ect.).

Let us know John..

Ed. Can't say I've noticed the revs going up and down, but I'll listen next time I'm out. The gauge seems to work intermittently though. I'll check the hoses and let you know how it goes

Hey Welsh! i have a bag of better luck for you in the post mate!! I bought two bags and ill share!

The boost guage sounds like it may have a connection problem somewhere. Could be where it goes through the bulk head, could be a split pipe, could also be a kink in it too. Check all the pipes first

HOWEVER, i have removed a couple of units from Skylines that have decided to balk up in the guage itself. Theres not a lot you can do then mate. Is there anyone near you who can lend you a guage to try out? If theirs works fine then you know the guage is pooped.

Good luck mate!

It's not mechanical when they sweep when powered up at first, the intermittant working defo sounds electrical to me like a loose connection.
