The type R is probably the most hardcore version impreza. I have seen a few with 555 seats but don't think it's 555 model as such. It has the fabulous driver controlled centre diff.(dccd). Which allows variation of the power between the front and back depending on your driving style and driving conditions. They are in my opinion the best model of classic bar a 22B. Usual things to look out for as per any impreza. Service history, no nasty clunks or grinding from the transmission, smoke from turbo etc. I'm sure there will be wiser people along shortly tho.

Buy on condition and vet the owner as much as the car. Be especially careful to check for crash damage as they can be a bit of a handful. Oh yes and make sure you get a decent test drive as they're not to everyones liking.

Yes that is correct, if you have to put a baby seat in the back then the RA is much better

babyseats? lol :D , depends what you look for in a car TBH all the luxories like elec windows a decent fifth gear for cruising on motorways, airbags, central locking etc etc blah blah then the type R is the better one, if you want a more aggressive car without any of the luxories listed above then the RA is better, it is quite commonly known the RA is the rawest impreza subaru have done, everything has been done to save weight and aid performance B)

I wouldnt worry about buying a standard type R, they are still some machine especially if it has been looked after which is what you want.

My mate is selling his one. He is a member but hasnt been on that long so hasnt got the 50 posts required to advertise his car on here...

It is a distance for you too but definately worth a look.
