I just put it down to the fact that I am motionless and not moving away from exhaust fumes that are building up around the car which eventually get into the car through vents and other openings.

Had it 4 years and it started about a month or two ago.....
st3ph3n Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I get the odd whiff of v-power when stationary, but not what I'd describe as exhuast gas smell. I did have a burntish smell earlier in the year and it turned out to be the rocker gover gasket that was leaking, so some oil (very small amount) was getting on to the uppipe and burning. It was not a nice smell!

st3ph3n Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Could be that the cats are collapsing. Do you notice anything at the exit of the exhuast to suggest something coming out that shouldn't be?

p10ant Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Have you got a Dump valve/ BOV that vents to atmosphere, Any oil vapour in the intake pipework / intercooler will be venting out it. Cheers, Paul T.
Frank_STI Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I've been getting an "oily" smell recently myself, will be getting it up on the ramps for a check on Wednesday.

Frank_STI Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Cheers, I'll check that out, its just hit 40k on the clock and going through a lot of oil so maybe a good chance that this is the problem then
st3ph3n Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 My 05 wrx did it at about 50K, so not far off it. Well worth getting it checked.
Frank_STI Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Well after inspection last night, turns out it is a rocker cover is leaking oil so i've got gaskets for both rocker covers and will have to get them replaced asap , I have a busy weekend ahead of us lol Edited June 6, 2008 by Frank_STI
