Car Damaged @ T&c Whilst Getting Serviced

Hi

A day after geting it valetted I took my treasurered Scooby into T&C this Wednesday for its 60k service (£400++) and to get new wheels fitted.

Went to collect it really forward to see it with new alloys on....

However as the staff member was bringing the car round, it got a minor prang as one of T&C staff accidentally reversed into Service Manager's brand new Land rover. (gulp)

They were really good about it obviously taking back the car into bodyshop for 2 day repair.

My question to you folks is if the repair looks fine, do I;

a) Do nothing more

b ) Ask for a discount off the service

c) Ask them for suitable compensation (as I can now no longer truthfully say the car has never had a knock)

What do you folks think, or am I overreacting???

Cheers

M

I'd say your entitled to something... Discount off the service sounds fair to me.. But I'd also be making sure the repair is 100% perfect!

they damaged my side skirt when it was in to get a few bits done after i had bought the car from them... Thing was they were taking ages doing some minor stuff (to put new disks and pads on the front and a few other minors), so when I asked what was going on they said it was because they were down a member of staff, pushed this more after 8 days, only to be told they had damaged the side skirt so bad they had to replace it...

When I go the car back they had put the wrong side skirt on!! Three weeks later I got it sorted...

I would really push them hard to sort you out with some compensation.

I like the staff up there, but I hate being told porkey pies :rotfl:

Hi

Think I'll discuss it with Murray (Service Manager) as he seems pretty reasonable & probably calmed down by now after his new Discovery getting damaged too!

Given the circumstances and based on your advice (thanks v mucho), I think a heavty % off the service is appropriate, but only if in addition the repair is absolutely immaculate.

I hope to hear back from T&C on Friday pm, so will report back on what they offer, as I'm sure you'll all want to be reassured on the Customer Service they offer in situations just like this..

This topic, plus the fact it's also posted in General Discussion along with the "I'm sure you'll all want to be reassured on the Customer Service they offer in situations just like this.." comment is clearly in the hope it is read by T&C and designed to make sure they have no choice except to offer something. I can't say I agree with your tactics...

Think you are reading to much into this topic....

He is simply making other scooby owners aware of the problem he has @ T&C, one which is similer to mine - in turn making other users of that garage aware of what is happening, and what they are doing about it.

It may turn out one of two ways

1. He comes back with a glowing report

2. He comes back with a bad taste in his mouth

Either way, I would like to know how it has been handled, so I can make an educated choice of where to get warrenty / service work carried out in the future and seeing as I have had a problem there too, it kind of shows it's not a obne off...

At the end of the day this is a Subaru forum and we all like to know where we can go to get our pride and joy looked after properly.

As I said I like the staff up there and have bought two cars from them in 6 months... even after getting my scoob damaged and getting lied too.

Accidents do happen but it shows what a garage is really like in these awkward situations if they can keep the customer, who will hopefully return in the future, happy. If you don't ask you don't get, it is an inconvenience to the owner so why not expect to be compensated in some way.

In-laws were due to get their brand new car yesterday, garage phoned 30minutes before they left to say it had a "small scratch" on it. They went over to the garage to see it - big crack in the bumper where something had reversed in to it.

Their solution - can fix it but it's a whole new bumper and small piece of bodywork needs sprayed...in-laws reply rightly "don't want it at all knowing it's been damaged!"

Garages next solution - you can have a car meant to be for pre-reg in 2 weeks time, but due to the way you were buying (some company finance deal) the damaged one we can't offer the same price, it'll cost you £400 more ! So they're responsible for the damaged one and their solution is you pay more for a replacement - aye, very good "don't think so"!

New solution(s) due today !!

I doubt T&C read this? And I certainly have no intention of telling them either.

By asking people's opinions I wanted to make sure that if I requested them to consider offering me some form of compensation I was being reasonable and level headed rather than overreacting in the heat of the moment considering I'd had my car crunched. - can still hear that noise now! :rotfl:

I would like to stress that thus far (apart from T&C originally offering differing quotes for the service) I have been impressed with the Customer Service they have offered and like many other posts have said the staff do genuinely seem a nice bunch. This is the first time I have used T&C for servicing as I normally use a cheaper Subaru Service place in Perthshire.

I also do not agree with other comments along the lines of "take them for what you can get". I just feel some sort of compensation that appropriately reflects the incident occuring and the inconvience. If I was trading the car in to T&C and I told them it had a minor prang but fully repaired, I would expect them to value it less because of it.

I shall give T&C to oppurtunity to make me an offer they feel is appropriate rather than go in there demanding a figure.

I've read both threads Andy and i don't see where your coming from mate. What tactics ??. As far as i can see the guy is only looking for a bit of friendly advice about the situation.(i'd have done the same). Maybe the dealer should have explained everything to the guy before he left the garage. Customer service ?

Anyway, I hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction buddy :rotfl:
