higgy Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 very nice but not sure about the workings. ????
higgy Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Sorry Simon, don't mean to rain on your parade, just my opinion, but I do have a small amount of experience here.Could I be so bold as to post the pic showing the baffle on 22B asking for an opinion, to coroborate what I say ? I'm just trying to save your engine. ---john--- No rain on my parade I baught the sump because it holds almost 2 litres more than standard, and i intend on modifing the baffel that is on the car that i have at the moment. That i made myself!!!!!. All of the oil return passages inside the block and heads have been dee bured and smoothened of to aid in quick oil return. when i baught it i was not aware that the internal baffeling was as poor as it is, but ive not let anything on the car get me down just yet Cheers Higgy

~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Do you need to?I've changed a sump before. Not quite straightforward like most 'bread and butter' cars, but do-able. Saves takin' off all the gubbins associated with engine removal. 'Specially those modified to the levels you're at. Any more advice or good links here Alan w.r.t fitting and ensuring proper sealing etc ? My sump looks like this ( a porrous issue according to the garage who had the car on the ramps) and although it's a minscule problem I may as well change it out before my next oil change ( soon) Do you reckon this is a worthy replacement given that I am only doing the odd track day ?? :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-IMPREZA-SUMP-...A1%7C240%3A1318 Thanks Cal p.s whilst we are at it - if anyone can positively ID the headers as Gruppe -S tubular jobbies ( version 1 ??) that would be appreciated too. I am keen to confirm exactly what they are - equal or semi-unequal. I was convinced they were truly equal ( purely on sound alone) but there is a slight burble ( somewhat masked but the HUGE baffles in the back-box)
wilky Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 They are not the headers I put on that engine in 2004. Callum W
micra_wrc Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 slight off topic but wonder how long it will take you guys to realise this thread was started back in April
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 What make were the original jobbies Callum ? Cheers Cal

I was convinced they were truly equal ( purely on sound alone) but there is a slight burble ( somewhat masked but the HUGE baffles in the back-box) Hi Cal Are you able to do the work yourself? I not, it's no big deal for a garage to with the car on a ramp. And looking at your sump, yeah, i'd change it! From memory, those headers don't look like Gruppe-S to me, though it's been a long time since i had a set. The Gruppe-S should have their flange at the base of the up-pipe (not at the front like in that pic) and be a 2 bolt variety. They look un-equal to me.
AlanG Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 "Ebay" link of sump looks fine though the item is "used". Remember, It's easy to paint a sump and make it look like new, so worth asking how old it is, or even find out how much they are new. You never, know, they might be quite cheap!
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Cheers Al - I would not tackle it myself as I don't have the necessary tools if I get into bother ( sheared bolts etc). There is no desperate hurry so I'll review my options. Perhaps an uprated one could be the way forward if I can get one at the right price. WUZ potentially has one he can sell me. As for the headers, thanks for the advice. I only had 2 mins under the ramp and took photos all under the car as a record. I know wish I had spent more time trying to identify the header manufacturers ! Cheers Cal
WUZ Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Cal - those headers are DEFINITELY NOT Gruppe-s but they are equal length. The sumps I have spare are a used OE Subaru one or a NEW Group N Baffled one. You need them ASAP or are you waiting until I get back? Russell
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Cheers Russ - I can wait till you get back or worst case I'll get in touch with Dunc.................. I should have bought that HKS Ti Tip Back Box from you afterall ! I do miss the burble but 7k of revs sounds pretty immense too.
fai17 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 The headers looks like the one you used to get on ebay.. Good luck Cal
st3ph3n Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Seeing as this was higgy's thread - where is he?
thefastone Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 don't think that he comes on very often anymore... You have goat...
duncan_stephen Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Cheers Russ - I can wait till you get back or worst case I'll get in touch with Dunc..................I should have bought that HKS Ti Tip Back Box from you afterall ! I do miss the burble but 7k of revs sounds pretty immense too. Cal - see how you get on. If you can live with it till then fine, if it gets really bad then we could always change the headers and sump at the same time if you like. See how it goes. You have my number if you need anything. Do you still want the ported headers or will I give them to Ciaran????
mystery machine Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 If I came home from work and some greedy kint had emptied my tin of Grolsch, that would constitute a bad day indeed! That sump's almost too nice to fill with oil, BTW. Maybe you could line the bottom with tin foil to help keep it nice?
