Decided On A New Look...

I love white wheels and decided to look on Ebay for some - I found this pic luckily which is exactly like my car and has the white wheels on it so I can see what it will look like (and I like it!) I also have an STi 8 spoiler in the garage waiting to go on.

Are there any others with white wheels on a WR Blue Newage? I need to see what other styles of wheel will look like altho I do like those pictured.

Any ideas where is good to get wheels and tyres relatively locally? You seem to know loads of people :rotfl:

Also - I am at a loss as to what the Mille Miglias are worth s/h!

well was thinking of 17" but if you reckon the 18" are ok for handling I'd be happy to go on that recommendation. Also is my car 5x100 or 5x114?

Is the £600 just for the wheels?

Nope wheels and tyres! might be up in price a wee bit but deffo no more than £650 including locking wheel nuts too............. and its fine on the 18's. Never had any problems going from 17's to 18's.

Want Craigs and Dougies numbers to check?

Gus

PS your car is 5x100

Hi Paul,

I had my rally wheels on the my Newage for a wee bit and have to admit I was gutted when they had to return to the old classic, I really liked the white 18's with the WR Blue car.

They were a bit more expensive than the £600 Gus was on about - but you get what you pay for I suppose. The wheels Gus was talking about don't need to take the punishment the Speedline Turini's do so will probably be ideal.

Her is another pic bud so you can see how good they look.

Have fun.

Cheers Gary, I saw yours but they are a bit out my price range, unless I could sell one of my toddlers :rotfl:

They do work well on the Blue car tho....need to sell the mille miglias first tho...unless I dip into my repayment fund for the scoob lol

White is nice, I like those - but I also like your big silver wheels too... actually, I prefer those. I can't understand why bigger wheels make handling more difficult.

Firstly there is a biger circumference which means less likelyhood of wheelspin.

Secondly, there is a bigger contact patch, therefore more grip

Thirdly, low profile (35 I think yours are?) means less lateral movement when cornering.

Conclusion - These three factors all contribute to better handling not compromise it.

Of course, being a total numb-nut when it comes to these things, I'm sure I will be corrected by a more knowledgable and qualified individual very shortly! :rotfl:

Cos I feel these 19"s tramline a lot and the really low profile doesn't leave much room when cornering or even going round a roundabout with a bit of speed - I am sure I have heard the scrape of metal on the road when cornering with a bit of pace! - I'll see what Cusco Kid thinks on Sunday.

I also don't like the arches being filled quite so much with wheel!! lol

I hope Irish Al doesn't read this! :rotfl:

19's will certainly Tramline a LOT more than 18's but ALSO the type and make tyre can significantly affect this aswell. The OE spec tyres I had on the 17" Sti wheels were terrible for tramlining.

Although, IMHO I would think you would notice a considerable difference on 17's or 18's with decent tyres in the handling department and a bit more give in general with the higher profile tyres which would come with 17's and 18's.

i see your point most of the time im running 225/35/18's on mine but it handes great i think and thats just on pirelli and falken rubber small amount of tramlining but thats just cause the roads round here are crap!!

ive got 15's on it at the mo with 215/65 rubber and what a difference it is to drive on the straight bits no bumps or shudders but through the corners rubbish but it does have rubbish tyres at the mo

i bet it will feel better on 18's or 17's i was told by a guy who tarmaced(sp) a few scoobs years ago that he thought they were great with just 16's and good rubber

Tramlining? What? Is that when you feel the car pulling you off line as though it has a mind of its own? Given that a car can't actually do that, it is therefore down to the state of the roads and this experice is more pronounced with 19 inch wheels.

The metal hitting the road at high-speed cornering makes sense though, that I understand.

John, "tramlining" is a term used for exactly what you describe but can be, as I stated above, as much about the make, tread pattern and tyre wall reinforcement of a tyre you use than the wheels.

BUT in addition, because the tyre profile is less on 19" wheels than on say 17's or 18's then there is MUCH more chance of this happening as there is very little give (flex) in the tyrewall and therefore when cornering the tyre cannot roll as easily which is mainly due to EXTRA reinforcement on larger diameter lower profile tyres and thus will feel like its stuck on a "tramline".
