Getting Over The 1st Hurdle!

Hello there all

I have been after one of these babies for a long time but when I managed to mash my Fiat Coupe comprehensively on a diesel-splattered surface ( I was cornering reasonably sensibly!) I now have the perfect excuse, because I reckon a 4WD would have held it. (pic of Fiat below to prove that you can walk away from a 520 degree spin in one of those things sometimes!)

So I have set a budget of £5k (could go slightly higher if nec) and have been scouring ebay/autotrader online for a WRX (not import) less than 60k & younger than 8 years old & not an import. Haven't come-up with much....

There are these two which look fab

But of course I can't tell what they're actually worth until they've gone(Owner of the 1st thinks it's worth up to 7K - not the Bailey on here is it?)

So what do you fellas think? Am I expecting too much for this budget & if so, what would be a realistic price for my criteria? I have a tame mechanic to take with for viewing btw

Really glad to see there's a vibrant SIDC local club, :P

Bailey did a part ex on his at a dealer which has since been sold on.

I would have a look through the for sale section on here and scoobynet for ideas.

if the road was covered in diesel I would doubt you would have got away with it in a scoob even with the 4wd.

Looks a nasty impact.

Yeah I was lucky!

Thanks for your reply above I have been trawling through here & scoobynet but I was really just hoping if I've got the money totally out of proportion someone would laugh at me & put me straight! Seeing some of the meet pics though, those bad boys on there are all top of the range really - look GREAT too.

My advise would be to take your time and really have a good look around for a decent one - There are some about.

I jumped at the chance of getting a low mileage 53 plate STI for £10495 and as a result im still having problems with it - as we speak the car is with Subaru having suspension, ABS, Brakes and other small problems sorted, I have owned the car for 5 weeks and only now am I getting the work finally sorted.

It took 4 weeks to get the warranty details off the garage I bought the car from so lets hope its all covered.

scoobs everywhere for sale at the moment...buyers market...have you tried piston heads..

yeah thanks that's one of my regular haunts, I swear I have spent nearly the whole day looking! I have revised my budget to £7k and might be getting somewhere now. It doesn't help that I was surprised that a Turbo (not WRX) has 280bhp & a WRX Prodrive PPP WR is 265bhp? I could use a course on understanding the 100 or so different specs!

It'll soooo be worth it though. I saw a youngish lad cruising past in a lovely WRX STi today and couldn't help grinning widely at him - I was walking, he must have thought I was nuts!

a uk standard turbo has only 212 ish bhp not 280bhp...........and with ppp would only be 250bhp i think, someone will know exact figures......

or are you looking at imports??

Welcme to SIDC BTW.

Thanks! Can't wait to have the wheels to merit hanging round here!

or are you looking at imports??

Thanks for those figures parker, I am not looking at imports (although I can see there are loads of happy folks on here with them on here) - advice from the mechanic who will be servicing the car (&OH's best mate!)

This is the current shortlist (I am dreaming about them now - research is getting intense!)

and this one

Anyone got a view on which should be the front runner?

I can't see the ebay links at work but for £7K i reckon you are looking at an early Bugeye WRX for a newer car. There are a few about with low mileage, in good nick, but what about going for a Classic? For £7K you could get a spanking classic.

There are some specials that are still desirable now like Type R's, RA's, P1's etc.

There doesn't need to be an issue with imports either. There are plenty of specalists that can look after them, and it only takes a map for UK fuel, and they are just as (if not more) reliable as UK cars.

Welcome BTW
