rallyfever Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Hi all, Just got the rally car fettled at TEG a few months ago, everything was 100% fine, but now after taking it to get resprayed it has developed a judder in the steering wheel, not sure if it could be the power steering pump or something else, the levels for the fluid are fine. Any ideas anyone. It's a 94 classic with standard steering. Cheers Gary
buffalo Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 wheel imbalance? i get this on my passenger side between 70mph and 80mph, just need the alloy balancing.
rallyfever Posted March 1, 2008 Author Posted March 1, 2008 It does it when it's not moving, so won't be the wheels needing balanced. Cheers anyway
thewelsho Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 It does it when it's not moving, I take you mean it judders when you are idling?
BriWRX Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 How long was it in for a respray, did you check the mileage before and after, i suspect that one of the people doing the respray took the car for a spin and maybe did some damage to the car. Have a quiet word with the owner.
turbo2000wagon Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 If it's happening on the move it could be a sticking piston in one of the calipers..sounds unlikely but I had it on my classic and felt like a wheel imbalance problem.
rallyfever Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 Hi Guys, It was not the guy who is spraying it as it was like that before I dropped it off at his garage. The steering wheels judders when you turn the wheel when the car is on idle. it seems to be slightly better when it's being driven, but still judders a wee bit. As you can see it's a bit or a mystey, not the brakes, not the wheels, maybe the power steering pump is on the way out??? I just got a quote from a breakers of £50 for a 2nd hand one - anyone know of anyone who has one for sale? PS, Picking the rally car up today after it's respray from WRC blue back to gleaming white - can't wait to see what it looks like. Getting put back together over the next couple of weeks so I will post some pics on the site when its complete. Cheers Gary
