Just arranged Insurance for the New Car - Tried Direct Line, as they have been ace for the past 5 years - Quoted me £424... I thought excellent yet again! Then the dreaded question arrives "Does it have a tracker fitted sir?" Ermm...No it doesnt actually... "well we cant insure you"... BUGGER

Luckily, took heed of many folks advice, and gave Keith Michaels a call. Very helpful (Most folk are when they are talking your cash) - £590, without a tracker. So quite impressed with that really.

Decision time.

Thats a not bad deal mate. £424 is exactly what direct line quoted me, but they want a Tracker fitted. (Which I will do anyway)

Oh and be carful about the tracker Al, I found out the hard way, I had a tracker fitted from town and county, thinking yeah, happy Peace of mind. but then direct line would not touch it - wrong model of tracker apparently...

You need a tracker for them, but tracker retrieve does not count... :(

Direct line, dont actually own anything really.... in reality they are themselves as we say...

Well looking at the RBS's web****e, (the corporate-whore site, ass opposed to the personal banking site... :()

some of their more interesting brands include...

  • Directline
  • Privilidge
  • Churchill
  • TRACKER
  • Devitt
  • Green flag
  • WorldPay (don't know if we still use them for the membership payments...?)
  • The ONE account
  • Streamline
  • NATWEST
  • MINT
  • Lombard Direct
  • TESCO finance and insurance
  • a bunch of underwriters

I was surprised the first time that I saw that list... but then you have to keep your portfolio varied I suppose... lol

Yeah Dale, I had the same palava when I bought my first WRX from Town And County. Direct Line Insisted on a Tracker Moniter, and wouldnt accept a Tracker Retrieve.

How many years no claims have you got though? that's said for a 25year old, I don't suppose that's toooo outrageous, I'm only just over the 500 mark, and have protected no claims... and I'm 28.

Just got the 3 years No Claims, plus they are still taking into consideration the 3 penalty points, had them for over 3 years, but insurance want to know about convictions over last 5, so suppose it aint that bad a price

TBH 3 points dont do a great deal to the cost of your premium... 6 they start to take notice... oh and they are not keen on bans either, but I found that my one only cost me about 100 more... not as bad as it could have been...

Where have you been hiding Al? I am no longer at Lossie gopt my last tour in and got Coningsby a bit flatter than up there but a hell of a lot closer to home and the bird. My insurance went down to £620 this time but will be going up as I am looking at a new engine, 2.5 @ 500 bhp.

Hi Steve, long time no hear! I'm just back from Iraq - Got nabbed for a 3 month holiday over there. Have treated myself to a new car when I got back, so just getting used to that again! Sounds like you got big plans for yourself then? New car completely, or just a new engine? Sounds a beast!
