I was done in Swindon a few years back for my number plate on a 205Gti - The plate was the right size, lettering etc but was fixed to the front splitter. The coppers pulled me over and told me that the angle was wrong and that it sloped back.

My response was F**k off.....

....how did Mazda get away with putting theirs on the bonnet as standard on some of the MX5's.

They had no reply - They started to pick on my lights instead. lol

To be fair they are illegal, there is strict guidelines as to the lettering and spacing and what else can be on the plate itself.

Its all because of the plate recognition cameras don't work with custom plates so they changed the law!

Whatever you do don't go near central London with a plate like that as you will more than likely go through one of the camera check points and you'll be flagged up as an unidentifiable vehicle and you will be pulled over by the plod within seconds of going past a camera.

If you are lucky you'll just get an on the spot fine. If not so lucky you'll get a full search of body and car

I accepted that my plates were illegal my problem was that they couldnt have seen my plates all 3 times i was pulled in 1 week (i was waiting to get my old plates back). They followed me and then pulled me for my plates because there wasnt anything else. The ANPR copper told me you couldnt see my plates in the camera, however, when i was sat next to him in the car i could quite clearly read my plates!

Oh well it was good for the 2 years i got away with it lol.
