scouk Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) Not impressed so far with Keith Michaels.. My insurance renewal with elephant is due 1/1/08 so great time to change to keith michaels.. Started off good, called up early in Nov to get a quote listed all details I could got a good quote.. Called up again just lat week to go ahead with the quote and state that I'll have 4 years NCB not just 3 that I though I'd have (cant count obviously) Anyway everything seemed good.. Got the insurance proposal in this morning and hardly any of the information is correct. Only modification listed is Suspension changes, when infact there is quite a long list of modifications which I had told them about. PPP, mudflaps, front splitter/rear spoiler, headlights e.t.c. My drivers details aren't accurate There no additional driver listed, when there should be a 2nd driver on the policy My previous insurer details are wrong Finally, my motoring convictions are wrong.. They have put down an SP30!! When The code should be CU20 Driving Dangerous vehicle (tinted windows). I've never been convicted of an SP30!! Seems it was just “assumed” an SP30! Despite specifically mentioning the details surrounding the penalty! I know I shouldn't rant on here but I'm not happy with this.. My insurance is toast as off 1/1/08 and now that it's christmas/newyear I'm worried I'll be left with no insurance in a couple weeks because of this blunder.. Everything should have gone smoothly. they had the correct details!!! Their offices are closed at weekends so just tried emailing them, don’t give much hope for that as they seemed to ignore every other email I’ve ever sent them in the past.. Grrrr!!!! Sorry mods, if this is an inappropriate post then please delete it if you feel it necessary... I’ know it’s not nice to rant about companies in this way! Just thought it was worth posting as they are renowned for delivering good service and deals to SIDC members And… relax………. on the plus side, latest edition of True Grip arrived this morning! pmacFTO Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I'm never sure if I should contact people about their business thru sites like this but I see he is in the insurance section posting about stuff so I guess it's ok My insurance doc also does not mention all my mods which I was concerned about (and did mention over the phone) - I assume Gary will know what stuff needs declared (i.e some don't mind cosmetic changes etc) but it depends if you want like for like in the event of an accident. Most are more bothered about enhancement which change the power of the car altho you could argue that major cosmetic changes could make a car more desirable to thieves.
scouk Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 I'm never sure if I should contact people about their business thru sites like this but I see he is in the insurance section posting about stuff so I guess it's ok Well.. I'd normally say no.. Especially at the weekend when it's his time off but it's into the crimbo period and I've no idea when their offices are open the next couple weeks.. But if he does get back to it'd be really appreciated.. at least so I know where i stand... My insurance doc also does not mention all my mods which I was concerned about (and did mention over the phone) - I assume Gary will know what stuff needs declared (i.e some don't mind cosmetic changes etc) but it depends if you want like for like in the event of an accident. Yeah it's maybe just that... But would be nice to get confirmed... Just hear stories about insurance companies turning round saying ooh! you didn't say that you had a uprated spoiler on the back (when the car already had one and it was an optional part) then go one to say well this isn't the car we have insured, so were not paying up and you'll be F*&ed for not havign insurance! This is no dig at any insurance company but a general comment.. if they want drivers to pay for insurance work with them! Dont try and con your customers!!! Which I why I had a list of everything that's been changed on the car.. Surprised to only see one modification listed and it only covers a small part.. But maybe your right, that'll only be like for like parts that are listed.. Which in my case is fair enough.. Most are more bothered about enhancement which change the power of the car altho you could argue that major cosmetic changes could make a car more desirable to thieves. True.. but the other way to look at it is that if it does get nicked it's easier to identify if it has a humungous WRC wing on the back (Which mine doesn't BTW)

From working in the insurance industry – these are my thoughts for what there worth. I would first of all find out if the company has call recording. Second just like any policy there should be a cooling off period, e.g. 14 days as long as there has been no claims etc… you will get a full refund. I would call them when they re-open get the details correct, they may / may not then have to re-rate the policy, if they then come back to you and say they can still insure you but it will cost you an additional premium then I would be taking things further. Now if they do have call recording get them to listen to the sales call to find out what was or was not said, if they are still not going to honour the price then I would log a formal complaint with them, then I would log a complaint with the FSA and take it further.

Thanks for the advice.. Appreciate that! I dont think it will get that far to be honest (at least I hope not).. I think it's probably just a mishap. As all details were mentioned previously and saved with a reference number.. Also I'd emailed the office twice with the details so they will be on file somewhere... Whether or not that information was read I don't know.. I never received a reply via email. I'd suggest they take the email address off their site if they don't read them.. But I did go through all the details of the vehicle, drivers and conviction when I first called them up for a quote.. I don't intend to cancel.. They are recommended by loads of people on here and Snet, discounts to SIDC members (apparently) and I felt I got a reasonable price. All was well until this morning... I'm just paranoid about insurance docs not being accurate. And rightly so.. But if I do get left without insurance after the 1st.. I'm screwed! I start work at 7am in the mornings and no way to get into work other than drive!! Doesn't help at this time of year either with companies on holidays.. Hopefully it will work out ok.. Fingers crossed anyway...
Moley_WRX Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 SCOUK - I touch goats Not sure why the details are incorrect without looking at the policy, will speak to you next week to get them corrected. We get the details on the proposal form as close to correct as possible, but feel free to correct any details which need changing. In the old days you'd have to fill in every details yourself on a 3 page A4 form, therefore we try to save your time by using the computer generated forms with as many details on there from the start. Reference the mods, we can only physically list one mod on the proposal form, but we give you a section to list them all in. The proposal form is a legally binding document, so as long as the mods are on there (either written by us or you) and signed you'll be fully covered (like-for-like)
scouk Posted December 23, 2007 Author Posted December 23, 2007 (edited) Thanks Gary!! Thought it may have been something silly like that... Good to see we can get it sorted out.
