luke_clifton Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Hi, has anyone on here experianced 4wd wheelspin before? Just asking as the other night i did my first ever 5k launch and the wheels spun for a second or so. I thought it was clutch slipping, but the person i'd just dropped off, said all 4 wheels were spinning.

Launching like that will only eat your transmission and spit it out in little bits after a while. I have had wheel spin in my car in 3rd gear before, but admittedly it was a wet road and I had the loud pedal down to the bulkhead. I know it was slipping because the car was skewing sideways at the time and I had to get off the gas to regain control!!
luke_clifton Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 Yeh i know how bad it is, and my first time in 4 years of ownership isn't bad. Tbh i don't intend on doing that for the next 4 years lol. Although it was very fun.
Nudge Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 i seen sped light up all 4 from the dartford tunnel booth last year, left about 50ft of rubber, i was impressed.

It will spin in 2nd and 3th if pushed hard. New clutch and box rebuild in the kit car is only a few hundred a lot cheaper than doing it on the Scooby. Mind you the kit car only weighs 620Kgs so I suppose that it should be able to spin a bit. So let me see 185 bhp at wheels at 620kgs equates to 185 divided by 620 = 0.2983 multiplied by 1000 = 298 bhp per ton at the wheels not flywheel, not so bad.

Scoobys are OK as long as you have the 6 speed box as it's as tough as old nails, the 5 speed box is a bit different, some of them are OK yet others blow straight away

Never tried since.

Scooby Hoo? Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 (edited) JUST FOR YOU YOGI My son's have managed to post these pictures off the camera. It's all rocket science to me. I built the car over 9 years. The latest mod was this year when I fitted 5 inch carbon fibre headlights and new front grill, just after these pictures were taken. yogi- Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Great looking car, i bet its loads of fun to drive
iainc Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Caterham looks cool. As to wheelspin, I've only ever done it once, few months after I got the first scoob. Had been used to Pug GTi's before so was used to cars that rev'd quite freely. What I hadn't worked out (first turbo'd car), was that when you buzzed the engine the revs didn't drop back down as quick as they did on the Pug, so as I sat at a junction buzzing the engine I hadn't really noticed that the revs were now sitting at ~4500rpm or so, when I saw a gap and went for it I spun all the wheels (was turning tight to the right as well), which threw me sideways onto the dual carrigeway, luckily I managed to catch it, lift slightly to let the wheels get grip and go for it. Gave me a HUGE smile and I wanted to go back to the junction to try it again
dazzlers82 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 nice looking car an not even gonna try 4 wheel spin until i can afford a new g/box
darryl_martin Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Nice looking car that. Have had wheelspin myself, accelerating hard in 2nd the into 3rd in the wet, wasn't a pleasant experience (just glad it was a wide road with nothing else on it lol!). Tyres have now been changed!!!!
