RA Dunk Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 can you hear the fuel pump priming before you try to start it?
paulc555 Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 can you hear the fuel pump priming before you try to start it? yes the car is fully stripped so there is a lot of noises....but Im sure I can hear the fuel pump... Fraz thinks it could be the spark plugs as I havent been driving the car just starting it for a few minutes at a time....? dont fancy changing those..!!
STi_Bandit Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 i had a simalar problem on my old car that it would turn but not catch, turned out to be the Crank Position Sensor, dont know if this could be the problem but a suggestion. Bandit

STi_Bandit Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 did this happen suddenly Martin...its just the car started fine with no indication of any problems yesterday... It did just suddleny happen, went out one morning tried to fire her up and all she did was turn but never catch and the AA man diagnoised it as a dirty crank poistion sensor which he cleaned and that sorted it. Iam not saying that what youve got but could be an idea. Iam sure there are people here alot more mechanically minded than me. Bandito

Paul paul listen for fuel pump it shpuld prime up for 2-3 secs switch off ign then switch on again you should hear the buz or whir for again 2-3 secs if thats ok then take the main fuel feed at fuel rail from filter and place into a bottle get somewone to crank engine for 5 sec max if there is plenty high preasure its ok .now remove the plugs its easy--remove washer btl to gain access at the pass side rem/ full airfilter other side that will let you in at that side if you have seperate coil packs you will need a 12mm spanner to remove them you cant go wrong refitting them as they are a dedicated length on the wiring its a good time to check for firing at the coil packs place an old s/plug in the end and crank holding the s/p against the engine look for a fat spark if thats ok after cleaning the plugs you will have to go deeper watch for soilled fuel m8 geo

paulc555 Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 Fouled plugs a good possibility Plugs so far seem to be the number one culprit....any special tools needed guys or just my trusty socket set...that santa got me thats only been opened once.... apart of course from the one thing i dont have which is patience..... suppose now would be a good time to learn with the project i have taken on...

jamie_wood Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Pumps were out of sync and the Anti lag was also over fueling. That and the nut that holds the steering wheel.
