frank c Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Is it really worth getting one of these fitted ? I've thought about other gauges and the like before but I don't want to buy anything i don't really need , never mind worrying about checking gauges all the time and making myself paranoid. So...what's best or worth buying? cheers.
AlanG Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Can't remember, is it Ecutek you've got Frank? If so, let the ecu worry about it. If it's Apexi, your check engine light will let you know and the commander can confirm it.
frank c Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Aye Alan, it's the Ecutek . I wasn't sure if it's worth fitting anything for peace of mind. Not really interested in things i don't need.
AlanG Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 The thing is for piece of mind, it won't turn out that way cause you'll always look at the gauges! They're there so you'll always look! You got an adjustable fuel pressure regulator Frank? If you have i'd be inclined to fit a gauge for that.

Just wondered about the knocklink as it seemed relatively cheap if it was a worthwhile addition.
colin_ross Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 For my 2 cents I'd say they can be useful. Yes an ecutek will look after you by pulling timing but only by so much. If you were to suffer a fpr/fuel pump/or many other items fail on you you'd be better off knowing there is a problem than not. Mine has saved my engine more than once and would be my first mod before upping the power on any subaru. As for it being just anopther gauge to watch, it doesn't have to be that way.
frank c Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) Thanks Col I had thought about a discreet k/link.. just wasn't sure if i needed one. I just need Dave to reply now, since it's usually the same 3 names who reply to my techy posts Edited October 22, 2007 by Frank C
frank c Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 PMSL One more thing.......... what about an upper rear strut brace ? I have a both front ones , d/links and an adj rear arb. Is one needed to get the maximum benefit of the other parts i've fitted . Or am i just wasting ££'s. ?
frank c Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) Ta Anything else worth doing Alan ? Edited October 22, 2007 by Frank C

Is one needed to get the maximum benefit of the other parts i've fitted . Or am i just wasting ££'s. ? My reasoning behind fitting the rear strut brace Frank was to retain the rigidity in the shell, because the shell was getting older and also because the increase in power puts stress on it, but as such, it isn't a *necessary* item for ordinary road use. In your situation and the use your car gets, i'd be inclined to save my money, but i get the feeling you want some retail therapy! Edited October 23, 2007 by AlanG
frank c Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 lol Trying not to spend Alan but "if" there was anything worthwhile doing for the finishing touches then i thought I'd look into it. Honest.........
micra_wrc Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 ach Frank, spend the money and get yourself a discrete knocklink. an affordable, sensible and "peace of mind" mod
