Im thinking of getting the type r but i want to know a few things.

what are the major problems with these cars?engine, diff, gearbox? im looking at the v5-v6

and also what are the best mods to do to it, to make it more reliable and for more power? ive got a decent budget for the car and the mods so fire away.

cheers

I think the most obvious mods are decat and remap, maybe an uprated fuel pump too. Can't remember how much power you can make on the standard turbo though (VF28)

I've got a Version 4 Type R with the following mods.

Decat Downpipe.

Full 3inch System

Greddy Headers

Walbro Fuel Pump

FSE FPR

Roger Clark Oil Pump

Light Weight Pulleys

Light Weight Flywheel

APS Cold Air Intake

Samco Hoses Throughout

Apexi Power FC Still to mapped by Andy F when car is ready.

I'm also thinking of a decent water injection kit and replacing standard intercooler with an STi V8.

Standard Engine and Turbo. Will keep you posted on power figures in the near future.

ideally i'd love to reach 350 and tweek the handeling.

would i be better off having one imported or should i look for one that has already been imported?

stewart i've already spoken to yourself about gettin a 2dr imported, i have only just got my scoob back from the body shop, maybe 4 weeks ago thats why i havent been in contact about this. my scoob still aint fixed properly and is going back in for more work, hopefully get a 2dr asap

A v5 with a 20g or md321 would easily handle 350. As for importing i s'pose it all depends on whats on offer here. I would look into importing whilst looking for one here as you may find a very nice one with sensible mods already here which you can see in the flesh and even test drive.

Hi Edd,

First thing I would do is get the car fully serviced incl timing belt no matter how many kms. Also get rid of std fuel pump and replace with walbro and get a fuel pressure reg, something like an fse. I would also do the oil pump when doing the belt just to be on the safe side.

Common probs with gearbox is worn synchros. Diff's are pretty solid and should be fine if you're buying a low mileage car. Other than that they are usually very reliable and solid. You can have a look at mine as soon as it's up and running. Shouldn't be to long now.

HI Stewart

that would be spot on mate not seen one of these in the flesh, my dad is taking my scoob off my hands and then i'll be in a position to get a type r. when i get a type r i'd just send it up to greers and tell them to do the lot, and get it mapped before i drive it properly. roughly how much should i be looking to pay for the car plus import charges and so on? hopefully get a v5-6 with the best grade possible, i've got a decent budget

cheers
