GolfGTI Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Your talkin p!sh mate. The road was greasy at the time, and when you passed, which I noticed was a skanky green GTI(if that was you) I had been there for an hour and the road had dried out a fair bit.Take it at 80+ if you want. The limits 70 ya tube and if you tried to take that corner in greasy conditions at that speed you will not get round that bend. You will end up like the Golf GTI driver the recovery driver told me about on that bend that ended up trapped in the field in the marsh with the fire brigade keeping him alive under the water with breathing apparatus as they tried to cut him out from his upturned car. The traffic cops told me there has been at least 12 cars off there in the past year and that I was the first not to end up in the field. I value there opinion more than yours!! As for insurance - I have 9 years NCB(which you dont get easily if you are a wreckless or poor driver as you seem to be accusing me off) which is protected - so no hammering for me! Please keep your comments like this to yourself. Forum users here does not appriciate people coming on and making accusations of people with not a shred of evidence to back themselves up!! Especially when they have ended up off the road and with a damaged car. I admit the conditions caught me out, and that it was my fault. But I dont need tubes like you coming on and trying to stir it up!!!!! Dave Superstar Tradesman - Its getting fixed by Nationwide at larbert cross. My GTI is black and fairly clean tbh. I went passed you before the Police or recovery were on the scene and was going to stop to offer help, but I figured that there was no point as I couldn't do anything except offer use of a phone, which everyone has now anyway. I think I passed you at more than 50mph and I really don't recall the roads being even slightly greasy at the time, although I'm more than happy to admit I may be wrong. You have more reason to recall the conditions than I do. As far as your remarks about "the limits 70 ya tube", well, I find it quite odd that someone who buys a car such as an Impreza and is clearly an enthusiast for the marque is someone who always sticks to the speed limits. Fair enough, you got caught out, it's no big deal. I had a mega tank slapper on that corner in the wet about 5 years ago in my Golf, which I fortunately recovered, I know how easy it is to happen. My post wasn't meant as a glaring criticism of your driving, neither was i suggesting that you were totally flying into the corner at a hundred and plenty. What I am suggesting though is that you were doing more than 50mph. I think anyone could negotiate that corner at 50mph in a Tescos shopping trolley on black ice. I apologise for any offence caused by my remarks, but there is really no need to get your knickers in a twist.

I am a common user on this "Public Forum" and did not appriciate your slanderous comments IMO. I can assure you I was going no faster than 60 going into the corner. When I hit the bumps on the bridge it started to understeer. Before I could react it swapped ends, and the rest is history. If I was going as fast as you accuse me, then I can assure you the damage would have been much more severe, and most likely ended up in the field. This was also the opinion of the Traffic Cop who attended the scene. What I find more strange about your post is the fact you appear to have scoured the net and joined only to post on my predicement!! You appear to be almost gloating that a scooby ended up off the road and your super GTI could out handle the impreza. I am sure the other forum users will appriciate your comments on us all braking the speed limit. None of us would claim to be angels of the road, but owning a scooby does not mean we all drive like maniacs at high speed. Let me know when you plan to take the corner at 80+ in the wet and I will call the amblulance and recovery in advance. Dave

I didn't accuse you of driving at any specific speed. I didn't scour the net to find out your predicament, I joined this forum to congratulate the users on their wonderful tribute to Colin McRae. I just happened to browse a few other posts when I was here and spotted this one, and having passed the accident and knowing the area very well, I thought I'd pass comment, as is my want. I thought you might raise a wry smile at it, not throw your toys clean out of the pram. I most certainly am not gloating about you having an accident, and as I stated in my first post on the topic, I'm glad to hear nobody got hurt and that the car is fixable. Despite your ludicrous over-reaction to a semi-comical post, that remains the case. As far as the other forum users opinions on my comments go, that is their business. I am not naive enough to believe for one second that you've all purchased performance cars to constantly toddle around at 29mph, 39mph etc. Time and place for it, no doubt, but come on... Also, I didn't suggest my GTI was "super" and in any way superior to your Impreza. It is a reasonably quick, competent and reliable car, no more, no less. I've always found that particular corner to be quite challenging. My friends and I have nicknamed it "the lanechanger" due to the uneven surface at the expansion joint in the bridge which pitches a hard cornering vehicle to bounce on the suspension from the inside of the corner to the outside. It is a corner where, if conditions are correct, you can fly around. You can see who is ahead of you well in advance of taking the corner and can therefore batter into it hard knowing the only danger is to yourself. I've been round it in various vehicles at some hairy assed speeds, both as driver and passenger, that I won't even bother to publish here to avoid having arguments about what is possible or not. However, I can and will say this for sure - I have driven round that corner in my Class 2 truck flat out on several occassions, which as you may or may not know, equates to 56mph. The 12 tonne (empty) truck hardly even struggles at that speed, which is why I expressed my doubts to the claim that a four-wheel drive sports car would struggle at 50mph. I doubt I'll post a great deal on this forum as Subarus are not a specific area of interest to me, I really only joined up to discuss the McRae tribute. However, I don't like falling out with anyone, even on the internet, especially when the intention of my post wasn't to cause offence, far from it. So, please treat this as an unreserved apology and can we put the matter to bed please. Edited October 2, 2007 by GolfGTI

So, please treat this as an unreserved apology and can we put the matter to bed please. Put your self in my shoes. You have mis read the road conditions, span out on a bad corner(AT 60!), damaged your car leaving the road. Then some random person posts on a public forum a clear accusation that I must have been doing more than that to have lost control. They have also accused you of lying about the road conditions as they past around 1 hour after the incident and the road seemed dry at that time. Would you not have replied. I am sure you would have! As for the corner, I dont particularly care about the cars or any other vehicals you have taken on it. You cant change lanes when there are cars in the inside lane my friend. I am sure you will agree sometimes conditions can catch you out and I am no longer justifying that I was not above 60 at the time. Believe what you want. Matter is now finished as requested. superstar_tradesman Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Dave ignore this to**er, anyone that knows that bend will tell you it's dangerous when wet and the bump halfway round doesn't help. Who's fixing the car if I may ask?

Dave I'd ask your insurers if it cant be done elsewhere as my mate's a spray painter, used to work there and hasn't got a good word to say about their standard of workmanship.

Dont think I have a choice about who repairs it mate. If they are just doing the rear suspension and two body panels, I would not be to worried. Once I get it back(still waiting for insurance to authorise) I will take it to my mates garage and get it on the ramp to inspect the job now though. Dave

david_taylor Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I take it they are just repairing the panels or are they replacing? All the work. Insurance now have report and their engineer must review before allowing work. Cant see them writing off a 5k car for work less than 2. Will find out by the end of next week. Saved a fortune of fuel over the past week. Have a 1.4 clio and only spent a tenner! If its a write off, buying back and getting my mate to fix. Should then have 3k left over!
