jedi020 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 hi guy only bought this car 23rd 09 and its got a fault all ready feels like its missing when you put your foot down but only sometimes it has induction kit blitz dump valve not much done to it what could this be??any help or advice would be great...never had a car like this before but my first words where !!WOW!!i love it....i have a yamaha r1 but this is a whole different ball game
stevie 4 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 same thing happened to me when when i 1st got my scoob changed the maf and put the standard air box with a panel filter on and everything is fine.induction kits can knock out the afm.you should check for error codes im not sure how to do it but someone on here will tell you
drb5 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 My bet is on the coil packs breaking up and possibly needing new spark plugs. Early cars are notorious for this.
jodie typeRA Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 (edited) check you ecu for faults mate (maf dont always show a code).it will only take ya 2 min ... connect the 2 black plugg under steering colum. thay will be a pig to find iff thay are still taped to the colum . have a wee look hear half way down the page (manually reading ecu codes classic impreza http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...ReadingECUCodes Edited September 24, 2007 by jodie typeRA
sKunk Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 (edited) Is it a Jap import? What fuel are you running it on? Edited September 24, 2007 by sKunk
jedi020 Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 thanks all the guy i bought it off is comming up to run tests on it and fix...it seems that when it hits 4000rpm its hitting a limiter allmost as if it has a limp home mode...but i love it when its running sweet sounds awsome and the power it has is good too.....buy the way i put 98 octain in it as i do with my bike hope this is ok...it is a jap import but the previous owner has had it for a year with no probs??...i need to sorce a boot carpet for it where would be the best place to go......cheers guys
jedi020 Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 guy turned up put the test on and it returned a speed sensor fault...the speedo worked but it does'nt now could the speedo be causing the fault or is it simply the speed sensor......
jedi020 Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 sorry to be pushie but does anyone have any ideas......and where is the best place to go for spares......
B14RY W Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I had the same problem with mine when I got it, after I had the clutch changed. Mine was the Speedo sender unit from the Gear Box. Sounds like a phone call to your Local Subaru dealer is needed mate. Think they are about £197 off the top of my head. If its any consolation mate its real easy to change once you have the part. Cheers Barry
jedi020 Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 (edited) cheers barry but if after running the test on it and returning a speed sensor code how would this mean it was the speedo sender or is this the part that you think is the fault code problem....? Edited September 25, 2007 by jedi020

The pin in my speedo drive had snapped and had been repaired, and caused the speedo to work intermittently. and bring on the C.E.L light. The pin eventually broke so didnt spin, so didnt send the signal to the speedo. Only a suggestion. Perhaps some one who is more knowledgeable can shed some more light on it for you. Barry
jedi020 Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 (edited) thanks again barry just trying to get it sorted for the lanark drive would like to have it running tiptop for sunday..gonna try a manual code test 2morro see if i can sort it out for myself....just dont want to go out and spend £190 to find it was'nt the right part....would broken speedo cable cause same fault or speedo sender as you think or speed sensor as per fault code shows on mechanic test....or just go to local garage box of matches and gallon of petrol Edited September 26, 2007 by jedi020

If you remove the speedo drive from the gear box and attach it to the drill, then spin the drill. If the speedo works then the cable/sensor/speedo all work fine and the problem is with the speedo drive gear in the box. You can also check this by having all 4 wheels up off the ground and put the car in gear, have a mate put something in the whole you removed the speedo drive from. Drive the car. If the gear spins whatever you have put in the whole the gear box end is fine. As I said before perhaps someone with more knowledge than myself could help you shed some light on the situation. Any joy with checking the fault codes? Cheers Barry
jedi020 Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 checked it tonight and it comes up the same code as the mechanic had on his computer....manual code was 3 long 3 short =33 speed sensor..reset the car works for ten mins then you get check engine and wont rev past 4000rpm part is £100.80 so it looks like i'll try and get one from a dealer...any sugestions on where to go as cant find any subaru dealers in edinburgh...

jedi020 Posted September 29, 2007 Author Posted September 29, 2007 (edited) hi again heres the latest.....did a manual check on the car and we got 3 long flashes followed be 3 short flashes =33 on fault code this is a speed sensor...now i've tried to find out what exactly this means some say it's a part that goes in the gear box, some say it is the speedo cable?..when all this started happening the speedo went on the car this is a cable driven speedo which comes in 2 parts top and a bottom i've check the top and its ok had it on a cordless drill and it reads 20 mph on the clocks...i've yet to get the bottom part off and check it but its looking like it could be the cause of the speedo not working ,but i dont know if this is whats causing the fault code???????or is it a simple case of get a speed sensor problem solved i just dunno Edited September 29, 2007 by jedi020
