AlanG Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 (edited) Not even remotely similar m8, this car has AVCS for a start!Russell ps - Nobody wants to name the mapper for their own reasons, especialy me so we'll see if there are any issues that can be raised from the mappers opinions but my honest opinion would be to let Andy, Pat or Bob look at the datalogs and maps and see what they think! Personally, i don't see why naming the mapper is going to help the problem here? The original OP carried out some mods, got somebody to map it, got results commensurate with the mods and so was happy that whoever mapped it, did his job correctly. The OP then did some more mods, but this time, the improvement expected,didn't happen when mapped. It sounds like there's a little bit of a mismatch going on with the mods used. The theory and the reality don't match up. It's like saying i get 25mpg. If "wonder fuel saver" tells me its' product can save me 10% in fuel, i should then get 27.5mpg. If i then pour in a "wonder oil additive" which says i can save up to 10% in fuel bills, i should really see over 30mpg from the car, shouldn't I? The reality as we all know is that you just don't see these kind of results, do you? It's the same here i think. The product says it should achieve xyz bhp. Yes, it probably will with the right supporting mods, but there's a piece of the jigsaw missing to allow the OP to achieve it. {Edit} Russell, the OP mentioned his mappers suggestions earlier in the thread. clutdav Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 I am (0600 here and the little one is wide awake) but I thought it would be rude of me not to reply!Ask the mapper to remove the CAI for one run on the dyno to see if that is a restriction Alan - agree with you on restriction isues but this is a decent system with no visible ID reductions and very litlle bends. Russell Russ, I did but was told no way was the car going on the rollers for one run without a filter on. They were not going to take the risk of something happening even if I was comfortable with it for one run. Dave PS: What do you think I should do???????
clutdav Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 Hi RussellI was meaning in terms of internal silencer design than the bore or number of bends in the system. Looking at figures alone between the two set ups can appear to be disappointing, but you would need to see the figures under the curve and the maps to see what's going on i think. Peak figures don't necessarily tell the whole story. I'd take the air filter off and see how the car performs. It's quick and easy and you should be able to feel the difference if the filter is an issue. Only do a couple of runs though, don't leave it off, but you'll know that anyway. The car is down all over the rev range and not just with the peak figures I'll scan in the graphs later on tonight and post tham up for you guys to see. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the map at all, but it hasn't been fine tuned due to us trying to fault find for so long................ Dave Dave
AlanG Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Is it mapped on the rollers? Maybe inlet temps are too high causing lower timing to be used to compensate for the high inlet temp? {Away to the local farm for a bale of hay, so's i can clutch some straws at the moment...}

Did their job right.........I should think so as , according to the OP, it was on the rollers for over 14 hours, fine tuning it. I did drive it before the 20G was fitted and it was fun to drive. Dave, ask the to compare Air flow readings (MAF from your old maps on the VF and the 20G to see if there has been a comparable increase in air flow to comfirm the turbo is throwing in loads of air. Also ask them to use a BRAND new W/B Lambda sensor to confirm the mapped readings are correct and not an iffy sensor creating an issue (more straw clutching!) Russell
AlanG Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 {top of my head} Leaky standard blow off valve?
fai17 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Not even remotely similar m8, this car has AVCS for a start!Russell Does the MY02 STI Type UK(V7) not have AVCS?

Russell Aye but that was not playing with the map for power and delivery. It was diagnosing the turbo compressor surge on the VF35. I'll send the mapper a text and ask the question about the air flow readings and see what he says. I'll scan all the graphs in this morning hopefully so you guys can see them. Dave
des_curran Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Does the MY02 STI Type UK(V7) not have AVCS? Yes the my02 sti does have AVCS.
craig mac Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Its defo not the 2.5 pipe as that is what i made 385 and 348ft/lb with am afraid to say Dave with a smaller turbo too... Dont sell it though you will miss it m8
clutdav Posted September 13, 2007 Author Posted September 13, 2007 Dont sell it though you will miss it m8 What the turbo or the whole car? I have to admit to still being rather disillusioned and could quite happily sell the car for a 22b at the moment........... Dave
Boyakasha Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 What the turbo or the whole car? I have to admit to still being rather disillusioned and could quite happily sell the car for a 22b at the moment........... Dave Give yourself a shake man, just get you know who to diagnose the problem, if they can't then they shouldn't be mapping the bloody thing in the first place!
craig mac Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Sell it and buy the 22b, i would if its the same one we spoke about!
drb5 Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 No need to sell a car, because your not happy about a performance figure. Did the mapper mention the restriction BEFORE you seen the power figures, or did he only think there was a restriction when you got the power figures and tried mapping for more power?
Boyakasha Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Sell it and buy the 22b, i would if its the same one we spoke about! Craig stop encouraging the man, 22B is a great car but so is yours Dave. Stick with it, or get a 2.5 like mine
