The standard uppipe came off of my MY06 today and was cat free (very surprised!), so yours may well be cat-free. If you find a cat in yours and need one urgently, let me know and I'll give you a good deal! ;) I bought a decatted second-hand one from an earlier Newage, that was originally bought as a replacement to the standard uppipe. If it was a replacement, it would suggest that it was catted in the first place. That, allied to the fact that many experienced drivers suggested I change my uppipe in case the cat broke up and went into the turbo, would also suggest that a cat exists in that section. Who knows!? :D

The new age WRX definately has a CAT in the up-pipe (mine doesn't now :rotfl: ) but the STI is CAT free. I fitted a good condition STI up pipe to my WRX and it works a treat. You can pick up the STI CAT free up pipes for next to nothing and it will work as well as expensive after market ones unless you are interested in porting the pipes to match each other and then match the turbo/head flanges. Once you get to that stage you are getting serious anyway.

There are also issues with some after market uppipes having too large a diameter which can affect spool up times on some set ups as the volume of the gas increases reducing gas flow velocity, effectively acts as a divergent duct. Just the info I have picked up from some people with much more knowledge than me. :rotfl:

Mine didn't, that was my point. I have a WRX and the uppie does not have a cat in it. I guess Subaru discarded that idea when they went to the Hawkeye design. I fitted a wrapped decatted uppipe that came from a Blobeye STi. It was not an original Subaru pipe though (HKS I think), so I am assuming that it replaced a cat.

Does Kinghorn drive an STi?

Ok don't know about the hawkeye but the bug and blob eye WRX have CATS and the STI's don't.

Seems strange that they have removed the cat from the Hawkeye WRX as the trend these days is towards cars with lower emissions. Or perhaps that is why you Hawkeye guys are payin more for road tax :rotfl:

Hawkeye WRX defo doesn't have a catted up pipe....as i've seen it and couldn't believe my eyes.

Wrap the uppipe off the car as there is little room round it whilst it is on the car.

P&P the turbo and the bottom of uppipe where it meets the Headers.
