Another Impreza involved in a crash

A 20-year-old man and a teenage girl were seriously injured in an road accident.

They were travelling in a Subaru Impreza when it went off the road on the A70 near to Sundrum Castle holiday village in Coylton, Ayrshire.

The driver suffered a serious head injury in the crash, which happened at about 7.20am on Friday.

He is being treated in Ayr Hospital where his condition is described as being serious but stable.

A 16-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car is being treated at the same hospital, with medical staff saying her condition is also serious but stable.

Two other passengers in the car, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were taken to Ayr Hospital after the crash but were released after treatment

Seems to be happening too often at the moment.

Ahhh geez..  This isn't good..

I'm starting to see a future where the Subaru Impreza will be banned from existense.  Not because of the My08, but because they will become un-insurable because of car-jacking and theft and being branded as a killing machine for inexperienced drivers.

I totally agree with he other post where it was suggested drivers should have to build up their licence and skills to drive more powerful cars.  I dont mean to offend any young drivers here but I do feel the sooner all insurance companies stop insurance powerful cars for under 25's the better.  Or at least the Driving Standards Agency comes up with a way to add a secondary licence level which will somehow proove that a driver is competent of driving such a vehicle.  I deliberately did an Advanced Driving Course before buying and Impreza for that exact reason.  I wanted to dicipline my own driving before getting behind the wheel of a performance car.  And I'm very happy that I made that decision.  It's all too tempting just to squeeze that right foot and forget about whats round the next corner.

im 22, and have had my wrx since i was 21,  although i dont drive like a complete twat on the roads, i do think that your average 22 year old in a impreza would more than likely crash, its all to do with bein responsable, i do have the odd moment in the car,BUT  only when im in the car on my own, AND i know the road is quiet. even then, i know my limits and dont ever get to cocky.

early imprezas r cheap to buy nowadays, ma missus nephew is 21 n bought his impreza bout 8 month ago, paid insurance well over a grand, i went in his car once, n never again, he had no experience of driving powerful cars, was totally crapping maself in the car with him, young guys can get powerful cars nowadays, n get insurance, then show off in them in front of there mate, then it all ends in disaster, ive always said, should be an age limit to drive certain sized cars, n seperate tests aswell, that way onlt the folk that are able to drive powerfuls, can drive them, n stop giving all us resposiable impreza drivers a bad name.rant over

They did it with bikes (power) so why not with cars .....

There was a time when the insurance premium stopped the young and inexperienced from owning such a car, but these days that don't seem to work, one way or another they seem to find the 2k odd required premium and happy to pay it [*-)]

lol, when i was in my teens/early twenties i struggled to buy my £300 mini clubman, let alone find 2k for insurance..

First 2 years of motoring up to 100BHP max  ..third year up to 120BHP  ..fourth year up to 160BHP and so on ......  car checked each year for BHP before insurance is granted ..

Something of this nature will be introduce by the goverment at some point i believe ...

Some Insurance companies do not insure scoobys to under 25's!

For example, A-Plan, who I am currently with..........but wait you say, I'm only 22 so they obviously do insure to under 25's.

The only reason they insured me was because I had already been driving the car for a year and had gained another year no claims driving a scooby, which ment I had experience driving it.

many insurance companies will insure young drivers, at a price which I was willing to pay last year because I could afford it.

You got to know your own limits, an advanced driving course would certinally be worthwhile, I'd like to do that myself one day!

Back on topic, its sad to hear about young drivers involved in accidents in subarus or any car for that matter!

shocking to hear about this, the joke of it is, a wrx is a very hard car to crash unless you plain and simple havent got a clue !!

I was paying £1800 a year to insure my P1 in 2003 when I was 28 ish, cant imagine what young kids are payin these days !!

im 21, 5 years no-claims and 3 points with car stored in a locked garage and i pay £980 third party a year on a '95 wrx import. uk spec's are alot cheaper to insure. when i was looking for a wrx then i could get fully comp for just less that that.

as for the young drivers thing, i agree and dissagree. ive been driving cars since i was 13 on my mates farm and bikes since then to, i do admit that i did have a slight ding with my first car and never had one again. ive done the skid car course, an introduction to advanced driving and a defensive driver training and doing a course with the road traffic bikers in 2 weeks time for the bike. it has improved my driving a great deal and im glad i did it now.

i think what im trying to say is that no matter if your driving a 1.1 metro or a wrx, accidents do happen if your not carefull, to anyone, young or old. statistics do prove that young drivers have more accidents but with the proper training, can learn to be a good, safe and carefull driver. but not alot of people can have the oppertunity that ive had to learn, old bangers and driving round fields and learning to control cars. there is only so much you can learn from books and instructors (i.e driving test) but in reality you only start learning after that.

Coming back to the other matter,

I think perhaps a scheme which worked on insurance groups ? maybe upto group 10 for the first 2 years, and then if you have 2 years no claims you can get upto 15 for another year and then surely after that you can be safe on the roads.

Accidents happen regardless of age of course, but its about minimising it.

I had to ride a bike for 4 years before I could insure the bike I wanted and finally got (gsxr1000) and for good reason !! The bike will do 150mph from a standstill in 10 seconds, somone with no riding experience out on that and they would crash no question.
