Cutting out at 5 000 rpm

Well had the chip and decat dp on a couple o weeks now but noticed when accelarating under full throttle it dies at 5 grand for a split second then pics up again and is fine, no probs in first and second and only doe it in 3rd or fifth when giving it everything but forth is the worst. If i give it 3/4 throttle its fine and boost gauge reads around the 1-1.1 but if i gun it and it misses it spikes to 1.3-1.4

Tried injector cleaner and cleaning the boost solenoid but no difference and the fuel pumps been changed to a 255 lph one so any ideas before i blow it up [:'(]

Have you checked the coil packs? sounds like the same problem as I had under load.

I thought mine were OK but when I took them off all 4 had splits where the wires enter each housing. When these were changed that fixed the problem. Also, check for dirt condition of your MAF.

Not looked at the coils yet but i'll have a go this wekend as i'll be in the garage fitting my ARB's and droplinks, maybe even struts if they get here in time [:D]

What should i be looking for with the maf as i believe there quite delicate and don't want to go poking where i shouldn't [:D] (always gets me in trubble LOL)

Is it 'stutter'/'bogging' cutting-out ? or 'bang-your-face-off-the-windscreen' cutting-out ?

Former suggests 'leccy problem (maybes fuel ,but I think you've checked that)- check coils ,plugs ,MAF.

Latter , may be overboost - hitting max-boost cut-off momentarly - get map tweeked or fit boost-controller .

what chip are you using? as for some reason it's overboosting. Do you have an induction kit and what turbo are you running.

 

It may be creep but i think it maybe down to the chip. Same as mine.

Steve is runnig the same Scoobyecu Chip as mine which is mapped for full decat and Apexi induction kit.

I had the exact same problem until I did coil pack and MAF.

Never missed a beat since[Y]

Although it was suggested to me to fit an AVCR/boost controller just to keep an eye on things. Havent done it to date but may get round to it[:$]

Defo a coil pack. Been there done that. Not cheap for 4 but worth doing considering the age of these cars now.

Budget £250 for all four. Shouldn't take more than 30 mins to change them all.

Its a proper smack ur head of the window job and the boost does jump so maybe a boost controller may be a good idea.

Will check the coils at the weekend, where's the best place to get replacements ? take it second hand ones aint worth considering as they could easily be fecked too.

Any recomendations on boost controllers as i know nothing about them.

I can get a set for £210 delivered through ebay, not what i really need after just buying new shocks but im sure the clutch can wait.

Why would a faulty coil pack make the car hit 1.3 to 1.4 bar?

If it is hitting 1.3 bar there would be fuel cut as the ecu cuts the fuel if bosst goes over 1.2bar (ish)

This is exactly what my car did with a scooby ecu chip with full decat and apexi ind. kit.

Funnily enough the same chip worked fine in coulty's car and the squirrels car with the same mods as mine but in my car it would hit 1.3 bar and cut, back off or use 3/4 throttle and it'd be fine. Was ok in 1st just happened when the car made full boost.

All sorted, new coil packs fitted and no more cutting out.

Exactley what u said gus all 4 were split where the wires went in.

A beautiful day like this and ur gonna watch footy instead of going 4 a drive,  suppose it's better than being behind the lawnmower like i will be soon [:)]

Well done for just biting the bullet and hitting the problem straight on. Quite expensive but now you know it wont be the coil packs next time.....

My guess would be the clutch giving up the ghost.

At the end of the day the whole lots gonna be replaced or upgraded sooner or later just part of modding cars i suppose.
