colzo Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Unlucky mate. I know this road very well and it amazes me why its a 50 in the first place (was told it something to do with the camber?). As Imy said if you sit at 50mph, 90% of the cars will pass you, but I`m always very wary to creep over the speed limit on this road as over the years I`ve saw numerous unmarked traffic cars patrolling that stretch. Hope the outcome is not too bad for you.
david_taylor Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Man, Friday the 13th really sucked for me. Took the car out of the garage this morning and a 4 inch crack has appeared on the drivers side of my windscreen. I think the stone must have hit, and when it cooled down in the evening, the windscreen cracked. Was not there when I put it away, as you cant miss it! Called autoscreen and will get it replaced on Monday. Will have to pay the £100 excess though![:'(]
AlanG Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 You don't pay the excess on the policy, it's usually a flat rate of £50 and it doesn't affect your NCB. That should cheer you up! [] ..... a little anyway.... [:S]
little vodka goblin Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 We didn't have to pay the excess when we claimed on our windscreen and it didn't affect our NCB but we did have to claim it for the next 3 years which put our premium up, may be worth finding out how much it would cost to pay for outright yourself rather than claiming off insurance - could work out cheaper in the long run.
frank c Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I got 5 points for doing 93 in a 60.. Good luck buddy.
thefastone Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Em... You dont have to claim windscreen damage when getting quotes for insurance when you go for a new windscreen... should say so in your policy IIRC.....? And yeah its £60 for a new windscreen, if you have it on your policy, most do, But then some dont have it automatic, My Bro found out the hard way... £500+ for a new one... Bad news...
gavin_moore13 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 i got done about 1 month ago 77 in a 50 by the traffics went to court got 4 points 100 fine. took my friend whos a lawyer to represent me and he pleaded a case for me looks a bit better plus if u dont have a lawyer and the court is busy ur always the last to be taken

Must be getting ripped off by the AA then cos it definately put my premium up and they said that was the reason why.
david_taylor Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Will find out on Monday about the excess. My policy states that it does not effect the claims, and I have no claims protection anyway. Cheers for all the comments guys. One more question. How long did it take for your paperwork to arrive after being caught? Dave
gavin_moore13 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 it took me 2 months to recieve my paperwork but they have anything upto 6 months . the paperwork will give u different options if u want to plead guilty by post but if ur not happy with the conviction u cant appeal it so ur best turning up then at least if ur not happy u can appeal it
david_taylor Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 To be honest I dont think that I want to go to court so will probably plead guilty. Going to call a lawyer on Monday for some advice though.
frazer_gallagher Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 got done nov 05 on toll motorway in birmingham 95mph and got a fixed penalty so i dont think there is any fixed guidelines its down to the police discretion still rather get done by a cop than a metal box
