ScoobyBB Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Hi guys, I was recently told that my 96 N reg Wrx import couldnt be CHIPPED, Can anyone confirm if this is true? Cheers.
G.Mac Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 not sure about chipping, but in terms of remapping you cant get it remapped without going for the Apexi power FC or similar, whereas a 99 onwards car you can get a tec 3 map done (remapping origional ecu) Graeme
z1000 Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I have a 95 STi and am getting a scoobyecu for it which comes pre mapped for your mods (induction kit, decat etc) and is a lot cheaper than a power fc so i don't see why yours couldn't. Steve
ScoobyBB Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 z1000 what kind of price is one of them? Whereabouts did you get it? Cheers for your help tho guys.
gus the bus Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 z1000 what kind of price is one of them? Whereabouts did you get it? £150 from me [] I've got one fitted to my Sti 555 and got one for Steve (Z1000) too. Its the "proper" fujitsu chip which if you can even get one are even £200 on fleepit, As steve mentioned the Scoobyecu is mapped for full decat and induction kit. I'm running a TSL system and Apexi Power induction kit and it runs a treat.[] Let me know if you want a chip and I'll get one for ya.[] So, whoever telt yeah it canny be chipped is talking bollox! Gus
ScoobyBB Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Cheers Gus, Is it just a case of replacing the old ECU with the one you supply? Will defo be interested but getting the car painted tomorrow so wont have the cash till end of next month, will give you a shout when a save the funds.
gus the bus Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 In the cars upto a 96 there is a spare socket in the existing ECU which allows you to plug in a chip so its a matter of plugging/possibly soldering one in if its a sealed connector, cutting a resistor out and after 30mins (if you want to wait) or performing an ECU reset (if you canny wait 30mins) off ya go[au] Just PM me when you want one.[Y] Gus
ScoobyBB Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 What sort of BHP do you gain? Is there anything to worry about blowing up? where is the ECU situated so a can have a look? Cheers.
dipsy Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Ecu is in passengers footwell under a metal cover fixed down with four 10mm nuts
gus the bus Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 What sort of BHP do you gain? Is there anything to worry about blowing up? where is the ECU situated so a can have a look? Cheers. As Dipsy says in the passenger footwell. The Chip will probably do more good than harm to an Imported pre 96 car tbh. as it remaps the car for UK fuel, removes the speed limiter (ie no more dangerous fuel cut) smoother turbo spool etc.... I'll pm you the full details of what it does mate as I have the info from Paul here. Gus
ScoobyBB Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Thought the speed limiter was removed when imported? Is it still ok to run the car on V-POWER? Sorry for all the questions but car my pride and joy and dont want to knacker it. Cheers.
gus the bus Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Thought the speed limiter was removed when imported? Is it still ok to run the car on V-POWER? Nope, not always but you would know it if you got to the limit as it cuts fuel NOT GOOD! also, the Jap cars are set to run on 100 ron fuel so you should ideally be running your car on Vpower and octane boost. With the chip it removes the need for the octane boost as its mapped for UK fuel. I've Pm'd you details of the scoobyecu. Gus
ScoobyBB Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Does the speed limiter only limit you to around 115mph?
ScoobyBB Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 I have reached roughly 130mph? Does this mean my car may already be chipped?
gus the bus Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I take it that was on Knockhill or at Crail[] might be chipped already[Y] or just the speed limiter removed. easiest way to check is to remove the ecu from the footwell and remove the cover(four philips screws) and see if there is a chip in the bottom right hand corner of the ECU and that the J1 resistor has been cut. If there is then your sorted[Y] Gus
ScoobyBB Posted June 25, 2007 Author Posted June 25, 2007 Yeah on knockhill racing my dad in his EVO 8,He is running approx 350bhp an i was keeping up but would never have passed, My car only been in country 7 months and should be standard 260bhp, I have fitted down pipe and indution kit,HKS bov,Zero sports have been at it at some point in its life due to intercooler splitter and various other components including sticker which used to be on the boot lid (prob doesnt mean anything)
marky.t.s Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 you mibbies want to edit that mate,i think you meant to say YES,to the Knockhill question[]
ScoobyBB Posted June 25, 2007 Author Posted June 25, 2007 But ok see your point, of course it was at Knockhill.
