RAC took me home guy didnt know why it was doing it no faults showing and fuel was getting thru and was getting spark, i have new injectors std ones i and changed crankshaft sensors when rebuild was done, idle control valve was also changed during rebuild im skint at mo and cant afford to take to a garage after rebuild wiped me out is there any body that could help me out or even have a look it at for me i would cover all fuel costs etc many thanks Damian forgot to say im in Broxburn 07792072069
phil Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 It certainly doesn't sound good I would take it back to the garage who did the rebuild Phil
exvaux Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 get the timing checked a mate had the same mysterious problem on a 95 wrx had spark and fuel but wouldnt start turns out the timing had slipped a tooth.
exvaux Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 and before someone says that it would wreck the valves if the timing was out i smashed a timing pulley and shredded the belt, fitted a new one timed it and away it went first go.

colin_ross Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Sorry to hear you're having problems Damian. All the pulleys have timing marks on them which you need to line up. Here's what it should look like..... If you have any doubts about the belt or the tensioners now is the time to change them as the next time it lets go it could take the whole engine with it. Best of luck.
Guest Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 thanks mate i got that pic with info when i bought car, the prob is the left handside pullys moved and i dont know which way to turn then to set up, new belt i have, the tensioner has two holes init to lock it back while u change elt the top one has broken and pin only holding at bottom but tensioner pin has came riht out now i dont have a vice to push back in totally gave up now im raging with garage going to se a lawyer!! thanks again for that info mate
exvaux Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Turn them all clockwise by hand slowly till the marks line up like the diagram thats the one i used, just take your time it was the easiest timing belt i ever done, hope everythin goes well for you.
ScoobyBB Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Hey mate am over the bridge in Cowdenbeath, Unfortunately my car is in paint shop just now so cant come over. I have a vice in my garage and would be happy to help with putting the pin back in the adjuster,if theres anyway you can bring it over? Cheers, Brian.

Guest Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 no yet mate its a new engine and it was ticking over when airconbelt broke and crank pully got caught up made timming belt jump 2 teeth so i replaced it it revs up ok no smoke or rattles or that just engine running lumpy?
the squiggle Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Compression check next to make sure she is still gas tight in the cylinders. You say the guage is showing less of a reading, this suggests an air leak somewhere in the manifold area. Find that and fix that first off, maybe a leaky hose or pipe could even be a split in the cooler. With a rebuild been done so recently i would go to the garage that done the rebuild for a check over, they would/should do the compression check Check all the earths going from engine to baulkhead and make sure the connectors on the ignition amplifier are clean (located behind the boost control solenoid on the inner wing drivers side) Check all the connections around the injectors Reset the ECU by either doing the Green plug thing or disconnecting the battery over night. ECU may be stuck on the old mistimed settings from when the timing belt was out, now the belt is correctly timed it may be struggling with the base timing and hence running like a burst fart
Guest Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 i can here a sound like the exhaust is leaking i.e blowing somewhere ill sort that, i had intercooler off when i was changing injectors and coil packs maybe ive pulled something off or broke something, ill do comp test tommorrow i have found a broken earth from loom to inner wing reconected it but didnt make no dif, im worried its bent a valve, as for he garage they have banned me as i lost my head at there attiude, i went in on friday to say sorry but they still refusing to help me so im taken legal advice on them. thanks again for all your help Damian
Guest Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 did a compression test number 2 had nothing so il take engine out this week, i have a MY97 engine will this work on mine? belt must have jumpedore than i thot many thanks to every one who gave me info and that cheers Damian
