jamesm Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Looking for new rubber for my WRX. Got a mate with a Celica GT4 who swears by Avon ZZ3s. I have never used Avons so was wondering if anyone ran then and if they were any good? Would be quite a saving against a Goodyear or Toyo but then cheap is not neccessarily the best. Cheers.
RA Dunk Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 toyos are grippy in the wet and dry but even with the side walls being reinforced i still find them a bit too soft, im going for yokohamo pradas next time
sti pretender Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Haven't tried Avon's but I got Goodyear F1's for £100 each and that was including mobile fitting (www.e-tyres.com)

scoobasteve747 Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Hi m8, I am running Avons at the minute on my MY99 turbo with standard wheels and to be honest they are complete pants, side walls give in too much on roundabouts and cause you to slide a little. I have just purchased TOYO T1R's for all round on bigger rims, I had these on my TYPE R last year and they were like glue on the road. But then again the Classic UK Turbo is a lot bigger than the TYPE R. See how it goes. Hope this helps
gus the bus Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I've tried most of the "recommended " tyres for the scoob over the years and cant see by the Yoko Parada spec 2's ( thats why I'm running them again on the 555[]) Had the Avons on my MGZT a few years back and tbh they were OK in the dry but utter gash in the wet. Gus
johnnyr6 Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I've never tried the zz3 but was told they are ok, pretty similar to t1r's, i've just fitted t1r's to my classic and i now find it quite vague at the rear with a lot of movement on the brakes at higher speeds. Upping the pressures seems to help and my arb could also be contributing to it. Time to play with pressures and settings methinks. Good grip from the toyo's though.
