Loose windows on a classic - anyone else?
BlackWagon replied to BlackWagon's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi guys, Thanks for that - you've given me hope that I can easily sort it. I did imagine it was going to be one of those annoying bloody faults you can't easily fix. Cheers! -
The 2 switches in this room should have a loop wire between them to carry the main live over then 2 returning switch-wires - one going to each light fitting. The neutral will be at the light fitting already - the live drops down to the switch then returns to the light fitting completing the circuit. To test them you can put all power off and use a pp3 battery and a 9v bell....? the bell is wired to any pair and the battery put to the other end - a circuit being made will make it ring. Does this help? Its how we identify wires in old houses but hard to explain clearly and takes 2 people to do. The outgoing wires in the diagram go to the next room etc. Cheers )

The flamin windows are loose and flappy with the doors open - anyone suggest a known fix?

Hi mate, Here is a diagram of what the wires are for. I drew it in mspaint so forgive the raw pic lol, I've been a spark for 20 odd years but im no artist! I also left out the earth (green/yellow) for clarity. You need to establish which wires do which jobs in the pic and join them. Note the black used as a returning switch-live or switchwire. This is the common loop-in system as used since 1970 The 'box' with the terminals is the ceiling rose (round plastic bit) - drawn square for clarity. cheers!

You need a press to fit them mate and certain years have non removable bearings so you would change the hub. It's probably a garage job - in Fife go to Falkland Performance in Glenrothes (they have a web site) - I got my rear one done for £55 and the bearing was £32 from D&A Motor Factors Glenrothes (across from F.P. in fact) Excellent job they did too. Got the car back inside 2 hours.

Here's the ultimate sacrilege - to make a good looking car into a pile of shite. I mean it's easy with a Punto, metro or nova BUT this takes the biscuit.... http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/BlackWagon/pish.jpg'> -
Classic and New Age ECU 5 minute Reset Trick

Hmmm - the fans could be on for rolling road purposes. Handy! Actually I suppose because they turn on test mode. -
Classic and New Age ECU 5 minute Reset Trick
BlackWagon replied to BlackWagon's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I'm not sure mate but depending on whether the remap is stored as the default or not I guess a reset will put most stuff back to factory standard. If the car has been reprogrammed then no it wont but if its just a shift of the default values then probly. Footnote: a search of the wondernet says that the ecu will default to map values as it adjusts any map due to driving conditions, fuel quality, barometric pressure etc. Anyone else know better? -
Classic and New Age ECU 5 minute Reset Trick
BlackWagon replied to BlackWagon's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Yeah I like the idea of using factory fitted connectors to do the job in 5 mins - that makes it easy to do any time. If Subaru put the plugs there to do the job thats good enough for me lol Heres a GREAT idea....(since i'm a spark): Fit a switch somewhere and wire it to connect these two sets of plugs - you could even use plugs from a scrapper (both greens and blacks) then plumb them into the existing ones and reset the ECU anytime you like..... -
A 2.0 Sport will do 30 ish MPG where the JDM 1.8 Sport I have can do 45 ish. I get 450 miles from a full tank (£50) And that is absolute gospel - no driving like a nutter mind or it will suffer but changing up at 3 to 4k will do ok. Take it to 6k and you can watch the gauge go down lol

Hi all, Just found this excellent ECU reset trick - takes 5 mins and guaranteed to work (Subaru factory procedure) http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...stLearningTrick (New Age) http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECUReset (Classic) Apologies to those who already knew this [] Cheers, Scott.

I had some nice controlled arse-out power slides (fun) but most satisfying was to drive easily thru fresh snow when fordies and beemers were sliding about like a wet sumo wrestler on baby oil []

Don't say a word mate. The only time ANY insurance co will want to see yer licence is if you stack yer motor into a bently and they have to stump up. SO DONT tell, and DONT crash. :-)

I have a sportwagon (import) and no NCB - confused.com got me Full Comp for £190 thru direct choice - read it an weep lol.
-
Yeah cheers Fuzzy I hope so too. I'm sure if I get the downpipes off a 2.0 sport and the first cat then i'll be ok. I guess i'll have to trail the scrappies and the papers to find crashed one.
-
Excellent mate! It's cool to be part of the family so to speak lol. Will do like wise. Have you ever seen a 1.8 before? I hadn't till I got this one. Bloody exhaust is a pain.
-
Hiya mate, I'm from Kettlebridge just north of glenrothes.

Hi all, I recently became a scooby owner when I bought an imported Wagon last year but just found the forum the other week. It's a 1.8 Sport AWD, Metallic Black with Purple Flip (factory) and I am looking for a decat2 pipe for it as the original cat has broken at the collar, however my local performance garage Falkland Performance, Glenrothes (who are top notch by the way and love scoobies) said the exhaust is unlike anything they have seen. Its a bit like the 2.0 sport one but piddlier and slightly different shaped. The 2.0 bits don't fit [8o|] My question is - can I get a cheap 2.0 sport manifold from a scrapper and just fit it? Does anyone else have a 1.8 here and tried this? I LUV the burble of the flat four and I want to put a 3 or 4" stainless on it when I can afford it. I want to leave the first (large) cat on and lose the rest to straight pipe and a jap box. I'm also after another tailgate with spoilers as mine is slightly damaged (rust at window rubbers) second-hand that is...and a turbo bonnet with scoops (classic non-facelift) if anyone in Sunny Scotland is breaking any bits??? Cheers, BW P.S. it's still a fairly quick motor and Full Comp insurance with no NCB is £190 hehehehehe and it does 45mpg if you drive normally []
