About His n Hers

  1. If I take the laddo off Her quote is only £330, slightly less than last year. A new 1.5 Impreza still comes out at £3100 with him named, I can get him on the Mitsubishi Colt on his own policy for £1400! Think I'll try a quote for the new Land Rover just out of daftness. Anyone else beat £17k?????
  2. Been a while since I posted but had to say something about this year's quote for Her WRX! Young un's 17 this year so got a quote for the Her WRX. Was expecting a price hike but didn't expect......... £17,000, I initially misread the quote and thought £1700 was pretty good! Guess it'll be up for sale soon, anyone fancy an 06 WRX SL wagon!
  3. I fitted same size winter tyres as the standard ones on the 17" rims. I was a little worried they'd prove to be ineffective with such a wide tyre but they were brilliant. If I could have put 16's on I'd have tried to get a taller, narrower tyre (might have been a little cheaper for the smaller tyre too). I've also got a pair on the Colt I use at work and have to say they are faultless too. I've run the Colt all year with them on without any problems. The Imprezas with the snow tyres are a bit lively when pushed in the wet & I wouldn't fancy leaving them on for too long after the winter's passed. I recently received BMW's latest brochure and they are advertising complete sets of tyres and alloys for all sorts of BM's. Guess the X5, 6 etc with standard tyres were pretty useless last winter. I know we passed all sorts of Chelsea Tractors stuck in the snow with the Scoobs Hope the Discovery (when it arrives) performs as well as the Impreza or I'll be looking real sick!
  4. Stu, didn't realise that was on option. Did you do it yourself or get some one to sort it for you? These have been noisy for ages (I don't drive the WRX so didn't have any idea how bad they were until after I sold the STI Forester & took the Impreza for a spin) Mark
  5. Definately worth getting! I've had 2 sets on some tatty Bugeye alloys that I put on Her WRX wagon each year (and on my WRX when I still had it). First set were Toyo Snowprox, since replaced with Marangoni (supposedly made by one of the big tyre manufacturers) As winter speeds are considerably slower I didn't concern myself with the Top of The Range (in other words expensive) tyres. Both brands were spot on for winter driving. Never got stuck, no big moments and the missus always felt 100% safe driving over the winter. We've got some serious hills to negotiate to get to work! Bought mine from mytyres.co.uk who also do a steel wheel/tyre combo. Only problem I had was the sidewalls cracking in storage, only reason I replaced the Toyos as they had loads of tread left after 3 winters. HTH, Mark.
  6. Rear shocks have gone on Her 06 wagon. I know some folks have suggested it's a dodgy design but I'm not getting anywhere with an out of warranty settlement. Subaru want £800 for a pair and they are not available anywhere else! I've looked at replacement coilovers (AP from £600 for all 4) but I don't want to drop the ride height or firm up the ride too much for Her. Tein seem to be a similar price. Anyone any experience with the above or similar set-up for a similar price? Could I keep the original springs & use them with new shocks from a coilover set? Thanks, Mark.
  7. Hi, I've just sold my Forester STi to a guy from Gibraltar who had the AA do an inspection for him. They subcontract the inspections to independents. The guy spent a good 2 hours in, out & under the car plus a good long test drive, even wanted to see all available history. Seemed like a pretty extensive inspection to me. I know the import plus 4WD option cost him more but he obviously thought it worthwhile, he had a verbal report that night and thankfully bought the car "unseen" I'm sure they have some sort of insurance to back up their report too. I'd seriously consider the same if I was buying something similar. Thought you might appreciate an opinion from the seller's side of the fence. Mark
  8. Thanks, off to Revolution today to get the bits! Mark.
  9. Cheers, never thought Litchfields would have it listed as clearly! Are the plugs and gearbox oil an easy job, don't want to give him an impossible task!? Mark.
  10. Hi folks, ain't posted here much since I got the Forester STi but after 3 years of faultless motoring it's time for it to go. As it's now out of warranty I'm getting my cousin to do a last service before putting it up for sale. Apart from oil & filter what else will I need? Has Zero Sports induction kit, do I need fuel filter, coolant change, spark plugs...............anything else?. Had brake fluid changed last year. Thanks for any info. Mark. ps, still got her WRX wagon so won't be totally Scoobless!
  11. have to say I'm well chuffed with mine (2007 WRC blue) much better than I expected & so so quick! Loads of room for the hols, plenty of storage and even has reclining rear seats! JDM radio MD player was junked asap with the speakers and TOM TOM fitted out of site under the centre dash flip up pocket (big hard drive for MP3's). Came with Zero Sports induction kit (a little noisy for my taste) and a complete Zero Sports exhaust which sounds the biz and a remap to 300BHP which is quite pleasant Probably gets as many looks and questions as the Scoob ever did (don't think there's another one round here) although the only scoobs who wave know me already. Probably the best all round car I've ever had even if the Impreza was more of a "real performanmce car", can't see me ever going back while the kids are at home. Not serviced yet so can't comment on running costs (apart from petrol) but can't see it being that bad & the insurance was way less than the modded Impreza!!! get one! Mark A
  12. Hi Mark, good to see you still keep an eye on the scoobs, I thought you gone to Oz! You over there for good now? Have to agree with you on the looks of the new model (tho' I've still to see one in the flesh). Sorry to say that I've sold the scoob too but managed to wangle an STi Forester.....a real wolf in sheep's clothing!!!! Mark A.
  13. Cheers for the wave if you read this, first one I've had in the STi Forester, tho' I did pass another 2 without any acknowledgement Mark A
