About AndyC_722

  1. A few years ago I swapped my '05 JDM STI for a BMW 330D... one of the best car decisions I ever made, I've not regretted it for a moment. You could do a lot worse!
  2. You're not being silly at all IMHO - having the best car on paper doesn't necessarily mean enjoying it the most, I've learned this myself the hard way. I'll vouch for the condition of tannan's car - he's just got the upgrade bug since I bought a P1 last month!!
  3. That's lovely It's also exactly what I've been trying to buy for the last three weeks... shame that the nice ones so rarely come up for sale ...so I bought a P1 instead...
  4. My scooby is a second car; I did ask about a limited (5000) mileage policy but since it was only going to save about £40 I didn't bother. Your best bet, if you only have one NCD, might be to call round a few companies and see if anyone will give you a discount on the new car based on the NCD you already have on the scooby.
  5. Bought my first scooby back in Jan '00 - forget when I actually joined SIDC though. I'm on my 3rd scooby now, though it's just a toy for occasional use - most of the time I drive a BMW.
  6. 4th pic down, black STI. Nice to see it's still around - though I actually miss my blue classic (MY00 UK, gold Prodrive wheels, driving lights) more. Sadly that car seems to have disappeared 'off the grid' since the guy who bought it off me sold it on
  7. I've had a quick look but, apart from a few similar questions on other forums, I can't find anything about them either. I did find their web site though - looks like a work-in-progress. The 22k mile engine is an early one (which is a bit odd in itself - I thought my '96 car was low mileage at 72,500 miles!) and doesn't include ancillaries, so you'd need to re-use yours. That's fine if they're all OK, but if the swarf in the oil got into your turbo then you'll probably want to replace that too (and the oil pump, and probably a load of things I've forgotten about too). That may bump up the price to compare more favourably with companies like API, TSL Motorsport, Scoobyclinic, Graham Goode Racing and the like.
  8. Yes, you can now! Take a look at http://www.polarperformance.co.uk/ - they do a live mappable ECU upgrade including a custom map for £550. I'll probably be getting one myself before too long.
  9. 500 I think, plus another 100 or so 5 door versions. There were also 200 Series McRae cars produced for the UK at the same time.
  10. It sounds as though we have the same car Have a look at http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/index.html - there's some more info, specs and so on, and there's links which may help you contact other 555 owners to compare notes.
  11. '96 STI v2 '555' limited edition It's the Manx trip wot did it!!
  12. Nice pictures, looks like it was a good event Maybe next year...
  13. Something doesn't quite add up - can you double check the model code? (The one you've quoted doesn't exist). I have an STI v2 555 - the model code is GC8C4ED. It matches your description - 555 mud flaps, roof vent, no ABS. My bonnet is aluminium (though the boot lid is steel - still quite light though), and there's an I/C water spray tank where the ABS pump would be. There is a Type RA sticker on my car, which I thought was original - though now I'm not so sure.
  14. That's what I thought when I sold my '05 STI last year. Less than 18 months later I've just bought another Classic
