  1. Yes sorry Bailey is right. VF35 is still a larger turbo though so similar attributes to the TD05
  2. Hi Chris, I own a 2.5 WRX and have owned a classic and driven the STI you re looking at a few times. As previously mentioned the 2.0 UK STI runs about 265 bhp normally (305 with Podrive kit - normally refered to as PPP). 2.0 UK WRX runs about 225 bhp (265 with PPP). As you can gather adding PPP to a WRX will give similar engine performance to a standard STI. A major difference between the WRX and STI is the turbo. The WRX carries a smaller TD04 and the STI carries a larger TD05. Performance wise the smaller turbo spools up faster and so is more responsive lower down the rev range (has less turbo lag) than the larger TD05. The downside to this is that it runs out of steam at around 6000 rpm where the TD05 is still pulling strong and hence produces larger bhp. Therefore it depends on your driving style somewhat and how much you want to wind the engine up to get the power lol ! The STI has the Brembo brake callipers which are a good improvement over the WRX (they can be fitted to a WRX relatively easily). Both cars have all round electric windows. Neither have heated front screens (as far as I know). STI has the firmer Recaro style racing seats. STI has 6 speed gearbox as opposed to the WRX's 5. STI has a slightly wider track and slightly wider wheels. STI sits slightly lower so less body roll but firmer ride. Obviously STI has large rear wing for mounting books lol (looks good if you re not shy) ! The PPP should come with a certificate of fitment, if you are looking at one of these, as the packs were only fitted by Subaru main dealer. They ve changed slightly over the years but usually consist of new backbox, sports cat, intercooler hoseing and uprated fuel pump on STI along with engine management remap. Cost of the pack is £1700 and can be retro fitted to an older car. Obviously with the higher performance comes a little more fuel consumption but you were nt buying a Scooby for economy now were you ! Insurance will be higher with the PPP - may be worth getting quotes for a WRX, STI and both with the PPP to compare. I pay £600 with full NCD on my standard WRX. Same company wanted near £1000 for the STI. Never had quotes for the PPP. Also many companies will not touch you without a tracker fitted so budget for this. Euro imports were cheaper to buy new so pay less for one of these which are esentially the same as a UK car. JDM (Jap Import) cars have slightly different engine components and slightly more power and tended to come in at similar money to UK cars because of this. Some insurers will either not touch imports or charge you more so shop around. If buying an already modified car, check what work has been done with the owner. Make sure as best you can that engine components have been strengthened to cope with modifications producing large bhp. If in doubt buy a standard car and modify yourself if you want to. They are all brilliant cars and nothing puts a smile on my face like the Scooby Best of luck mate John
  3. Hi Chris I used to drive the same model 2 years back and got about 300 miles to a tank (not sure what mpg that works out at). I used 95 RON and switched to Tesco 99 RON after finding I got slightly more mileage and performance from it. Its not a huge difference but possibly enough to offset the difference in price for me. Opinion has always been divided on the best fuel supplier. Shells Optimax and now V-Power has always been popular. The best thing to do is try running the various fuels for a while and see which you prefer (if noticeable). Bare in mind that you will need to run a few tanks on the same fuel for the engine to adjust to it - the engine management periodically checks for higher octane fuel by advancing the ignition timing. You will not be doing the car any harm by running on 95 RON as the engine will adjust to the fuel and UK cars were set to run on this anyway. mpg is always lower on short trips because the engine is colder (when it is running at its least economical) for a greater percentage of the journey. Hope this helps John
  4. Greetings all, just to let u know that I wont be joining you for a while. A nice chap in an Evo travelling in the opposite direction decided he was going to overtake 2 cars failing to notice me coming towards him. This resulted in a less than desirable head on situation ! No serious injuries but the Scooby looks pretty shagged. Not sure if we ll be seing her again - waiting to hear if shes a write off [] Still, the air bags work well and Id say the Evo came off worse [] I ll keep u posted John
  5. Thanks Bob (Pete) Bob email sent []

I m a fully paid up member of the SIDC but not with you CADS yet as I m still to make it to a meet. Next month hopefully [] What power increase have you had from ur remap as I did nt know what power u were running beforehand ?
