About mad malc

  1. And it has a Subaru proven warranty, although I think that warranty is probably a pile of crap really!!
  2. Yes it was a Subaru garage, although I personally do not know why I bothered! Should never have bought a scoob with piston slap too, as I am trying to sneak out of work before everybody hits the car park as it sounds like an old Astra with a knackered camshaft when cold. Think I have been conned somehow! Don't wory they will get sh*t about this other new noise....
  3. Cheers Derek, but as I said it can go back to the dealers as it is not my problem, but as I said they will try and fill me full of crap again as per usual.
  4. This is a great help CAZ but is this boost thingy prone to making noises or is it F*cked? As I said the tossers I bought it off would not listen to my arguments about piston slap and like a total muppet I bought the thing. So I am not going to get screwed for sod all else! Gonna take it to another dealers about advice on piston slap anyway as it sounds like a diesel or a Cavalier with a shagged camshaft when it is cold. With these Subaru proven warranty's who actually pays for the work the dealer or Subaru? It may run forever with the slap, but I only intended keeping the car for a couple of years becauce of the huge running costs. Will probably have to trade it in now if the slap never gets sorted, unless another idiot will buy a car that sounds like a diesel when cold!
  5. So is this a wastegate solenoid then? I am just a little confused as why it has suddenly started being so noisy. Probably isn't that solenoid but it was the only thing I could find on the FAQ's. Thanks again
  6. Yes tanks for the advice mate, but it never used to do it although I haven't had it long. And it is pretty loud, I was sure it was a gearbox bearing at first. Sorry I am just really paranoid about the car fcuking up!
  7. Recently my Impreza MY98 turbo has started making a fairly loud clicking noise that appears to be coming from somthing that is mounted on the driver side front suspension turret just above the air box. I have attached a picture of it to this post don't know if I have done it right though. Could somebody please let me know what it is and if it is causing a problem as my car is still under warranty. The car never used to do this. No doubt the sh*te dealer will just say it is a characteristic of the car just like piston slap. Thanks anyway.
  8. Andy, just put a big **** off exhaust on it so u can't hear it....
  9. Silver is best, then sonic blue or reddish blue (if it is a classic that is). Silver is best on most cars me thinks!
  10. Oh my god what a bin, sorry m8. Horrible little cars!
  11. Lanzarote is spot on I have been about 4 times, always to the old town of Puerto Del Carmen. I have visited Costa Teguise every time as I really like it, a little quieter than Peurto Del Carmen but really nice beach and some nice looking hotels etc. However a work colleague went on an all inclusive holiday in a nice hotel there and said it was a complete nightmare. I think he was unlucky as he reckoned a few really rough families had booked in the same hotel that fortnight he was there. Just saying the kids were out of control and there parents were going beserk with free drink at night, loads of bad language, smashing glasses somehow in the swimming pool that divers had to come and remove the following day. I guess this can happen anywhere, but it is what has always personally put me off all inclusive holidays (obvioulsy better in really expensive areas). As once you have paid your money you feel as though you must eat in the complex and if the food is crap or it is full of lunatics it is a problem. Dunno if you are going that way anyway. But Lanzarote on the whole is a lovely place, you can get half wits anywhere you go, but Lanzarote usually has less then most places in the Med.
  12. Sorry my maths is sh*t, I can only have 2 years warranty on the car. Because of the mileage.
  13. All I can say about my slapper is that it comes with one year Subaru proven warranty, and I have the choice to extend it for a further 2 years. Basically at this garage I am getting the car from they will extend your warranty as long as the car is under 8 years old and the mileage is less than 80,000. My car has 65,000 on it, it is 5 years old I only do about 7,000 a year at the most so I can have 3 years warranty on this car if I like (which I probably will, 2 extra years at a cost to myself). So I guess my dealer is not expecting it to go bang, and this gives me a bit of confidence. They must be loads of these cars with slap about. But if it bothers you, make sure get an older car or save more/get more debt and get a newer one. Or get a car that is of a year that can have slap, make sure the engine is cold before you start it, and believe me you will be able to tell if it has it! My dealer also says if I want to trade my car in for a newer model, further down the line this will not effect the price whatsoever as it is so common. I guess it is the warranty that gives me piece of mind (at a price!)
  14. Yes I know it does sound a bit stupid, but the dealer just will not budge. Maybe the dealer is not as good as people think or maybe piston slap is not such a big deal I am not sure. I have had a car before with this, did it all the time and it was no problem. If you look at the link below this is what they think about it in Autralia with their WRX's of the same age (on this particular forum anyway). I saw a post on here that said the Jap WRX has different pistons to the UK car, I haven't a clue! But after reading this it seems a coincidence that cars over there of this age seem to have the same trait. Sorry you will have to copy and paste the link below for this thread as I do not know how to make it as a website link! http://www.wrx.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=92
  15. I too have just bought an Impreza with piston slap, pick it up on Wednesday an MY98 Wagon and can't wait to tell you the truth. It is coming from a Subaru dealer whom I have made aware of the problem. They say it is just a charactestic of this year of engine be it in an Impreza, Legacy or whatever. This is a dealer that is very highly thought of on these forums too. I could not afford an MY99 so bought an MY98 and as far as I am aware they all suffer from this problem (MY97 too I think). But as long as it goes away when warm why worry? If you check out other forums in other countries they do not seem to bother as much about this as they regard it as just a characteristic of this particular year of car. If you can afford a later model buy it. But if like me you couldn't just buy it, and make sure it goes when it is warm. My car was not cheap and I knew this problem when I bought it, and like you to I worried a bit, but I have owned loats of cars with things not quite right and has never caused me any problems. If you are that bothered buy an earlier or later car that does not have this characterisic.
