About Bernard

  1. Thanks Custom. I'll keep you posted.
  2. Careful, if it doesn't go too well this weekend I might take you up on that! Mind you at 20 to the gallon it would probably be cheaper to get a new system fitted by Subaru!
  3. I've always found them to be very good in my dealings with them. I think they have a good reputation.
  4. Thanks mate, that's this weekends job lined up then together with fitting the Scott Lowe mudflaps if they arrive on time. I'm down in Sevenoaks, Kent. Don't seem to be too many of us down there though I did park next to an SIDC member in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday. Also in the silver.
  5. Thanks custom, It's getting complicated again! There are holes in the block to the right of the alternator that look as though they are for the compressor to drop on to. I don't think I've got any other braket unless it is already bolted on. There are two holes in front of the main rad that look as though the rubber locators on the bottom of the a/c rad will sit in. I've also been supplied with another fan which looks to be exactly the same as the existing one and should bolt/plug in next to it on the back of the main rad. Mines a UK MY00 if that makes a difference but I don't see how the a/c rad will fit anywhere but in front of the main rad as the fans are in the way. I can see where the two pipes enter the cabin through the grommet and will obviously have to replace the existing fan box with the new one I've been supplied with. Grade A have also sent me a new fuse box which looks like the old one but has extra fuses in it. Hopefully I can just transfer the fuses and not have to swap the boxes over. When and if this is all done I will obviously get it tested and gassed by professionals and make a mental note never to attempt something so stupid again!
  6. Thanks for your help everybody. I had another look at the weekend and I'm getting a bit closer now, I think I know where most of the bits go. It looks as though I'm going to have to take off the alternator to get the compressor in. Does the a/c radiator go in front of the main radiator or behind it? I thought once fitted I would take it to a proper a/c company for a check and gas up anyway. There's no way I'd attempt that myself!
  7. And now I'll post it in the right place..................................... Custom kindly pointed me in the direction of fitting instructions for the a/c kit the other day but as my computer skills are about as impressive as my mechanical skills I couldn't find proper instructions. I took all the bits out of the boxes and had a look under the bonnet and I can see that the pump/condensor/heavy metal bit goes next to the alternator but it doesn't seem to fit in the hole, do I need to take the alternator off? Also there is an enormous plastic bit which must replace something in the dashboard, don't tell me I've got to take that out as well! I'm starting to wish I hadn't been so tight fisted and had just taken it to a dealer! Any help gratefully received. Cheers.
  8. Thanks mate. Big sigh of relief! Chris.
  9. Morning all, So the boxes turned up from Grade A yesterday and it all looks rather more complicated than I was expecting! There are millions of bits and I'm starting to think that I have bitten off rather more than I can chew. Anyway, I phoned Grade A for some fitting instructions and was told that they don't have any but it should all be pretty obvious when I look at it. I think he has got rather more faith in my abilities than I have! So any ideas as to where I can get some instructions anybody? Or I may be looking for someone in the Sevenoaks, Kent area to fit it for me. So much for trying to save a few quid! Cheers, Chris.
  10. Afternoon all, Now that the sun's finally come out I've been looking at getting a/c fitted to my my2000 classic. The dealers seem to want in excess of £1,000 but looking through the old threads a company called "Grade A" sells a kit for a much more sensible price. Any ideas as to a phone number please? Or any alternatives/thoughts on fitting it? Thanks.
  11. Thanks Custom, I feel slightly more relaxed now!
  12. Hi all, I fitted an HKS SQV dump valve to my my00 last weekend. I have to say that it sounds fantastic but I'm not convinced the car is as quick now. Is this even possible or is it just my imagination? It also makes a strange wheezing noise under acceleration sometimes and it pops between gears (that bit I can live with!). I'm considering taking it off this weekend as I'm not convinced its doing the car any good. Any body else suffered/heard of this?
  13. I'm in Sevenoaks too. The local dealer these days is Walldonway in Larkfield but I've been less than impressed. I've been to Spring Park Motors in Shirley since and they seem to be much more helpful.
  14. Hi Uncle, I've had similar trouble on my 00my. The tickover was was erratic and the car was hesitant. My dealer diagnosed a faulty air flow meter which cured the tickover but not the hesitancy. During a high speed moment in France the "Check Engine" light came on so I took the car to another dealer who said the O2 sensor had shown a fault and reset the ECU. It seems to be running okay so far but if it comes on again I might have to replace the O2 sensor. The air flow metter is at the back of the large black pipe just after the airbox, they are easy to change over and I paid about £75 for mine. I was told that they can't be tested. As far as long term engine damage is concerned, I guess if the diagnostics check out okay and the car feels fine again you've got to assume it's healthy. I've done the pipe and filter on mine and will still do the Ecutek thing, I think if you are sensible in your modifications reliability shouldn't be affected. Hope this is helpful.
