  1. My 1996 wrx sti import has started to pop loudly out of the exhaust. It only does it when slowing down in gear as if it has over run and when you rev the car then let of the accelerator. I use an octane booster and optimax and thought i had put too much in so left it out last 2 fill ups but its made no difference at all. Its just had a timing belt change and service and the exhaust is reported to be not leaking and the engine sounded fine however when the timing belt was changed they pointed out that the exhaust cam was a tooth out. This i expect was done when the oil pump came loose and was fixed by john pye motorsport. Could an exhaust valve be bent or so
  2. It ticks over at the normal 750rpm now and then but most other times it ticks over at 900, 1000 and sometimes 1100rpm. Where is the idle control valve and how do you remove it??It used to tick over at 750 all the time but now for some reason its not sure what it wants to do! Cheers for the help mate!!!!!
  3. MY WRX STI HAS STARTED TO TICK OVER HIGH AND ALSO REVS SLIGHTLY WHEN CHANGING GEAR. ITS OK IF YOU CHANGE GEAR SLOWLY AND WAIT FOR THE REVS TO DROP BUT THE REVS DON'T SEEM TO BE DROPPING QUICKLY ENOUGH. COULD THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR BE DIRTY AS I DON'T THINK ITS STICKING AS THE SENSOR IS ON THE OTHER END OF THE THROTTLE SHAFT AND ALSO THE THROTTLE CABLE SEAMS TO BE FREE ENOUGH. THE CAR HAS ONLY COVERED 35000 MILES AND IS A 1996 PLATE
  4. I'm new to the forum and I have a 1996 sti 555 wrx sti import which has 35000 miles on the clock. The car has been away to get 5 bolts to do with the oil pump tightened as they had worked loose letting the crankshaft oilseal blow out. I don't know if this is a coincidence or i have just noticed but my cars tickover varies all the time now. It's mostly 900 to 1000rpm whereas before i'm sure it was 750. What could the cause be and where is the idle adjuster so i can alter this myself. Also does the timing belt have to be removed to do the oil pump and if so could the pulleys be a tooth out as it seems to have lost its kick in 3rd gear. I've disconnected the battery to reset the ecu but this has changed nothing. I use NF octane booster now whereas i used to use Pro Boost with optimax. The idle problem is the same with both boosters
