  1. Technically, they should be legal, as its inside the car. I know that you can get done for having the door handles wired up to 40,000volt transformer running off a 12volt battery. Remember a case about it, where a security guard sued the owner as it stunned him while he was walking round making sure that all the cars were locked in a secure car park. The courts forced the guy to remove it.
  2. Cheers for that info Cheshire.. Having a check and the OZs are ET48 so should be fine. 215/45-17s it is Edited to say that according to the tire size comparison tool, the 215 will be actually bigger in radius too. I assume its due to pressure "bulge" or something Specification...Sidewall...Radius...Diameter..Circumference...Revs/km...Difference 215/45-17........97mm....313mm....625mm.........1964mm..........509.........2.3% 205/45-17........92mm....308mm....616mm.........1936mm..........516.........0.8%
  3. Gahhhhh.. Goodyear dont actually make a 205/45-17 F1 GS-D3!!! Looks like Ill have to take the 215/40-17s then
  4. Thanks for that Chrisp, its quite enlightening with regards to the size changes. One point that shows, the speedo would be seriously out if I went for the 205/40s, as it reads over a little now on the 205/45s. I think its moved my bias to the 215/45s as they should fill the arches better, and improve the speedo accuracy. The only concern I have is will they foul on the arches? Anyone out there know? Edited after doing a more detailed search through the forums (had done one but missed and interesting post), Ill probably stick with the 205/45-17s as they are closer to the radius of the "original" wheel (they also seem to fit nicely in the arches - and having a stare at the car Im not sure the 215/45s will look as nice as they are slightly bigger).
  5. Right, Have a UK MY99 Turbo. Pretty certain running on standard springs, so standard ride height. My last car was running OZ Superleggeras with 205/40/17s, but this car came with Prodrive Speedlines shoed with 205/45/17. My problem is... what size do I get to replace them?? The tyres will be going on the OZs so I can put them on at last. My only issue is that when I put the SuperLegs (running 205/40/17) on the car they looked sooooo small in the arches which is why they have stayed off. With the Prodrive wheels (running 205/45/17), even though they only have 5mm more radius, look to fill the arches better. Do I go for 215/40/17 (from reports 215s shouldnt rub with a 40 radius), or do I go for 215/45/17? Will a 215 with 45 profile rub with standard clearance on the Superlegs? Gah.. so options are 205/45/17 or 215/40/17 or 215/45/17... anyone out there who can help me decide? Money isnt really involved as there are little difference in prices for the 3 sizes in the GY GSD3s. After the best grip combined with best looks, but no rub Any help appreciated.
  6. Nice that they greyed out the plate on the picture so you couldnt recognise the galaxy when you see it out an about Surely they should have been given the right to use blue flashing lights it they intend to stop motorists? Im sorry, but how many people are going to pull over for what looks to be either motorway maintenance or one of the private support vehicles that some manufacturers use for roadside recovery? I can just see them buffing up their HIVI coats and waxing the little tashes ready for all the "enthusiasts" cars they are going to pull.
  7. Oh bugger... ..mines also a 99 running about the 70k mark. Checked and cleaned the MAF, but the light still comes on. Had Quicksprint plug in his box of tricks (heartly recommend it), but now showing as a Knock sensor fault. Cleared the history and going to run it a bit to get the light, then check again. Im really hoping that this isnt going to be too costly.
  8. Cheers for the info. Once the rain has stopped, might pop out and have a look. Might be able to get an airbox cheap, just waiting to hear. I think its the only sensible thing to do.
  9. WelshWarrior, how did you clean the MAF? Ive been having the check engine light come on after idling in traffic recently. Took it to dealer and they say the problem is recorded as the MAF. As the MAF is only 6 months old, was wondering if its just got dirty. Cant feel anything wrong with the engine running though. Car has a history with MAF problems, as its got a generic PiperX induction kit on it (was on car when I got it). Looks like its been badly fitted, as it doesnt have a bellows connection to the engine so probably moves about a bit with the vibrations (not good on a 99 - but havent really had the cash to get it sorted). Trying to track down a working 2nd hand replacement MAF just in case, but need to look at options to dump the current induction kit for a more suitable one for the super fragile 99 MAF. Anyone got any (very) cheap options? current options are: 1) custom fit a bellows connection and additional bracing to the current piece of junk. 2) aquire a replacement induction kit which has the above already. 3) dump induction kits all together and try and source an OEM airbox from somewhere and go for green cotton filter or the like. Funds are somewhat tight atm, so any cheap options would be good. Im trying to convince the dealer to replace the MAF under warranty as they supplied the car with the kit on it and covered it with a Proven used car warranty. However, even if I am successful in this, I dont want this happening in another 6 months when the warranty has run out. Any help will be most appreciated.
  10. Well have a MY99 PPP with a pipercross generic kit on it. Bought the car with it already fitted from a dealer who gave it a proven 1 year warranty. Only had the car a month when it started playing up, which turned out to be a broken MAF. The dealer sorted it without a problem. Its now 6 months down the line and just started getting a "check engine" light come on after idling in traffic. Ive just been back to the dealer today to find out whats going on (as I have just changed the exhaust and was wondering if the ECU wasnt getting to grips with it). Surprise, surprise, according to them the MAF is on its way out again! However, this time they are being a bit more resistive about fixing it under warranty, so will be getting shot of the kit and going for a green cotton filter in the normal airbox (if I can find one going cheap). According to some tuning reports, they actually give better air flow and dont vibrate the MAF to pieces. Everyone Ive spoken to says that the 99/00 classic MAF sensor is a piece of cr*p and is way too fragile for induction. Anyone have any idea if the MAF unit can be retro-replaced for a more "robust" model?
  11. Yup .. off the Jeremy Clarkson Unleashed on Cars video. It was the one which TVR showed repeatedly at an old motorshow as it shows the the original Cerbera thrashing the pants off an Aston, 911 turbo, Lotus Esprit, Caterham, and Viper in a straight line 1/4 mile race. I remembered in horror when seeing that being done to the Ferrari. The funny thing was that as Ferrari is owned by Fiat, the guys company car was an Uno
  12. Just in case you wanted to see what superlegs in MTS (anthracite) look like on a DBM car .. heres mine with em. Orcane's car running on SuperLegs
  13. A work mate into his audi motors recommended Tyresmoke Forums. Apparently they have an area for oil burners. Edited to say.. looking through there is some discussion under the AUDI forum in Tuning/Tuner section about remapping a 130 TDI engine. AmD are a well known 'tweaking' firm according to work mate. At least somewhere for you to start.
  14. Hmm.. well Im not overly impressed by the WRX in that, as it only just about matches a Boxster. I can only assume that is a MY01+ UK WRX, as my MY99 UK Turbo which can only be running 260BHP max can easily play with the Boxster S and can match an M3 in straightline thrash to over 90+ (private road of course and 90 being about the speed you should be getting hitting the line). The WRX also gets whooped by the Focus RS, which I thought had been tested side by side and found to be a even match. I noticed that the WRX seems to fade off about 80% through the course which makes me wonder if it was a JDM reaching its top end puff, however, I would have expected a much more ferocious takeoff for the lower ratioed JDM car. Then again, maybe the drivers of the cars that Ive encountered are crap and Ive been lead to a false sense of confidence. Oh well.
  15. ok .. was bored .. how do they look? ps. I toned down the brightness to give a more realistic appearance in line with the photo.
  16. Sounds almost exactly like the problem I was getting. Although mine was only cutting out for very short bursts and so giving me a nasty judder on flat out acceleration, it was fine on slow takeup, and wasnt visible unless there was load on the engine (ie actually moving). It was found to be the MAF failing. I would definately get it on a monitor to check, as the last thing you want is to melt a piston or two.
  17. Im another that only knew him via his posts, but from the posts here I can see that he will leave a gapping hole in many peoples lives. This is absolutely tragic news, and offer heart felt symapthies to his family and friends. Ian and Cheryl
  18. Robbie09, Unfortunately Im not a gold wheel fan. I have seen some nice looking cars in that combo, but its not really for me. However, there will be some 17" OZ Superlegs in MTS (recovered from last beasty - god rest her soul) going on her once I have worn down the Pzeros on the Prodrives. They would be on her already, but their tread is getting a bit low for comfort (after the accident anyways). With the amount of mileage Im doing at the moment, shouldnt be long, and then Ill post a piccy.
  19. At last .. after a chance to clean her and getting hold of a camera, here are some piccies of the new beasty.
  20. Just a warning but I saw a snap wagon parked on a bridge over M3 1-2 miles north of Winchester Services at about 9am. Location seemed to indicate that it was targetting north bound traffic. Sorry for the delay in getting this info on here, but first time I got to a PC.
  21. God I hope I can get the new beast on form in time. Im desperate to give her a blast over there. Miss the roads. Definately planning on attending the full event this year.
  22. Also a little interested on what the new baby is capable of. Being a bit lumpy at the mo, and from peoples opinions could be the MAF as she has an induction kit fitted (on when I got her) which are known to mess the fragile MY99/00 sensors up. With the STI 3" centre decatted exhaust system (from standard downpipe), when she goes, boy does she go! Really cant wait to get her purring sweetly, as I can feel that shes way faster than the last MY99 non-PPP I had. Will have to get her RRed when shes on top form.
  23. I too have a DBM PPP MY99/00.. was wondering if those stickers are ok to go directly on the paintwork? I dont have the kick strips down the side, but was interested in losing the black (yes black .. almost unoticeable on DBM) Prodrive and Turbo 2000 transfers off the rear, and replacing them with a light/white Prodrive under the side repeaters.
  24. I think its normal. I think that there has been a lot of bad press about Scooby owners as we generally seem to be hated by most other performance car drivers. Im sure some of it is envy/jealousy, some of it is going to be chinese whispers, but I suppose there is a select few of the growing Scooby owners that may bring rise to the 'so called' Scooby reputation, but so far I think Ive only met one in my time. I personally dont have a problem with other car drivers, unless they act like complete knobs. I dont look down at other cars, and am very wary about taking anything on as you never know whats been done under the bonnet. However, I do get a warm fuzzy feeling when I do go for it and see the competitor disappear in the rear view mirror. I dont have a problem with them making silly remarks like they do, but just wish that if they do they actually have something that could challenge a Scooby. I can never phathom these drivers that put half a ton of over the top body kit onto their 1.0ltr whatever and suddenly think they have a supercar beating monster???!! Anyway, starting to ramble here so Ill stop.
