Cheers Jon! Whenever you like yessir. I'm chuffed that the old tank still gets the odd enthusiastic comment from people who remember them from their rally days. Anyway Neil, you'll be bound to see me out and about in it a lot more now that it steers properly again and goes like it should do! I can't get enough of driving it at the moment. Just need to be able to make it stop like it should now, without using braking accessories like walls/lampposts/sheep etc. Anyone know someone who can do cheap panelbeating/spraying? I MUST get the wing done on the front of mine as it spoils the whole car but I'm not exactly fluch shall we say right now.

Yeah. After payday! (25th)

Glad to see the old knacker will still live on! Hmmm, I reckon it'd be a nastier surprise for all the barryboys if it still had standard wheels on it so it doesn't give the game away that it's actually a fairly nippy old charabanc! Ripper of a runaround though. Cheers for the offer Dave - I've just got a 3" Afterburner downpipe & centre pipe ordered so I should have those in about 7-10 days as they've to make them first unfortunately. Still, in the meantime I'll have new brakes to fit and the chip when it gets here so a few bits & pieces to keep me out of mischief. Just need to sort out a backbox now as my current one is 2.5" and a flange fitting rather than a slot in fitting like the new pipe. Jon - will mail you about the 'L' in a bit.....

Well, to be perfectly honest I'm not really bothered if it's going to be loud or not. After all, they make such a nice sound it's kind to share it with other people who aren't so lucky.
-
Sounds like Jon's after it so far anyway. Goes pretty quick for such an ugly old shed - just doesn't stop all that well or do corners all that well either I think! What sort of exhausts have you chaps all got on your imprezas out of curiosity? I'm just in the process of getting a 3" system made from the turbo to the back box. It's got no cats, and no intermediate silencers so the only noise reduction will be the back box. I like loud but I suspect this sort of thing may cause earthquakes & tidal waves! If anyone has a similarly set up system I'd be interested to hear about it. Cheers!

He just wants someone to take it away so he doesn't have to pay to scrap it. As I say though it's a real crime to bin a perfectly good turbo boxer (1.8) even if it's housed in such a horribly boxy shell! Never really been into the .22 rifle shooting to be honest but growing up a hillbilly shotguns and air rifles have always been a bit of a pasttime. Have been doing clay shooting for a long time now too but generally only go up there maybe once a year or so. A bit of full bore pistol shooting a few times down at the peveril club, and then there's the weekend warrior airsoft stuff that I've been doing most weekends for about a dozen years (having a break from it at the moment though). I'm not nuts though.

Will do! He's just about to sacrifice his scoob actually. It's a bit of an old shed of an L series but the motor is good enough. Just seems a crime to scrap a perfectly good turbo boxer engine. Seems perverse. It's going for free if it's any use to anyone? 'Blam blam'? Pah! Amateurs. Everyone knows a 12 gauge doesn't go 'blam'! (One of my other main hobbies..... MAC)

Certainly have mate. He's Justin and I live at his gaff at the moment. Saying that I've plenty of other brothers to choose from but if someone on the island has a surname the same as mine, they're family! Best get that rattly big end dealt with asap fella! About 7 years back I had a fiesta that started knocking from the bottom end. About 6 weeks later when it was so loud you could hear it a mile off it spat one of the conrods (complete with gudgeon pin) clean through the front of the engine block! I've still got it somewhere as a trophy of its demise! Still, credit to ford, the little critter kept going on the other 3 pots until it got where I was going.
-
Cheers Richard! I'll try and see if I can squeeze in a half hour to nip down for a pint but I've quite a bit on my plate this evening so I might not be able to make it. Hopefully manage though. Not been out to Quillie's for a year or so, it'll be good to waste a few clays!

Quite happy to come along in mine as long as I won't be ruining any nice Impreza formations! Any plans for when this'll be or have I missed that somewhere? Btw if you want to email me at work Jon (or anyone for that matter), you can get me at Work email

If I'm allowed to come then I'd be well up for a bit of skeet shooting. Haven't been up there for a while!

I should think so too you young whippersnapper! There'd be no imprezas if the RS hadn't been around first! All hail! Had a look on autotrader website last night to see how much ones like mine go for these days and couldn't find a single RS on there! I knew they were scarce but not that rare! Best give the old beast some more TLC and new bits. Nah, I walk to work and back every day as there doesn't seem much point driving just halfway along the prom at a horribly slow speed, trying to find a space, then paying £4/5 for the privilege. Screw that! Besides - got to do some exercise to try and keep the beer gut minimal!
-
By the way - a few pics of my old chariot so any of you can give me a wave/flash if you spot me out & about: Legacy Gallery (under construction)

Yeah, I might be a little bit of a space invader moving in here, but y'all seem a decent bunch. Haha, the Mr T was a 2 off - once for a bad hair compo at work, then for TT week as I wasn't working. Have to admit that I do kinda get used to it though - I'd be happy to keep it like that but can't for work, and it'd be too much aggro to look after! Might make a point of waving to 'Barry' myself when I see him. He'll think it's a conspiracy if we all start doing it. Either that or get the wrong end of the stick and think that we're all giving him respect for his ugly silver wheelbarrow! Yuk yuk.
-
Cheers Dave! Oh yeah, I just found the guide that I think our friend 'Escort Barry' must have used to create his sleek, dashing, silver piece of asphalt detritus. I must warn you not to look at this for too long as it may convince you to sell your scoob and join the 'scort brigade! Enjoy: How to...
-
Bingo! That escort wouldn't happen to be a silver mk5/6, 5door one with the big gay bodykit and kind of wrc style spoiler on the back by any chance? It's hard not to wet myself every time I clap eyes on the monstrosity! Other local ones that disgust me are the purple puma that looks bog standard except for a spoiler big enough that it could easily have been robbed from the milennium falcon, and the puke green coloured 'goldfinger' corsa. It looks like a blue peter demo car from all the plastic crap glued onto it!

Bought a hybrid turbo for my old Renault 5 GTT a few years back. Cost me about £900 and lasted two months when an oil pipe burst and I heard the incredibly scary noise of a turbine locking up on full boost! Nasty isn't the word. Helluva fun while it lasted though.
-
You dig it the most baby! Yeah I like having it as RS's like it are rare as rocking horse sh1t in the uk. I've neglected the old knacker for too long so she's been getting treats recently - want to get it nicely macked out and in good shape again. Are there any garages here where I can get a gasket for the backbox? It's blowing a bit and it spoils the noise so I want to get it sorted now, if not sooner. The chip is one froma place in New Zealand that make them. Was saying to Jon before that it's tricky to get chips for as it's an '89er (first year) and they had a different ecu, but this geezer makes them and apparently they're pretty good. It goes in the normal ecu but apparently there's a bit of solder work involved. Doesn't worry me unless it's some hardcore intricate precision sh1t, as knowing what I'm like I'd try fitting it when I've got the shakes from a night out and fudge it up real bad! Heh heh. A new windmill would be nice to stick on it but I can't afford it at the moment (think you used to work where I do so you know I'm not earning much bullion even for a guru like me), plus I think the one on it is still in good nick. Never seen so much as a wisp of smoke out of the back anyway. That's not stricltly true actually. Just before sticking the new filter in just now I chucked a can of that 10K boost stuff in as I've heard a lot of good stuff about it. I figured with 100k miles on the clock and 14 years it's probably got more coke in it than daniella westbrook and tara palmer tomkinson having a snow blowing showdown at high noon! (That's quite good actually, must remember it!) Sure enough when that stuff got sprayed into the turbine and through the motor the amount of coke stinking smoke coming out the back was ridiculous! Job done anyway and the flat spot it had just off idel (since I bought it) seems to have gone now so it must have done something good. Gonna take the ol' shed out for a trundle now anyway and see if I can notice any difference with the new filter etc. Sheet! That's a bigger essay than I ever wrote at school/college!

Ain't no other foo' would dare talk to T like that. Had to be you! Bit too skint to be out on the sauce at the minute after buying bits & pieces for the car. Plus the fact that you'd probably put knockout juice in my milk, 'cept I know it wouldn't be to get me on no foo' airplane...... Stunning? Hope that's sarcasm fella! The old girl has had a dented wing for about two years now! Just got the Tanabe coilovers on the front setup about right, at least right compared to how they were anyway. Muhfuggers had 350lb springs on them and they're meant to be about 180-200. Bouncy don't even come close. Not too much fettling done on it yet but these are the bits & bobs it has: 17" 5spokes Tanabe Sustec Pro coilovers Afterburner decat centre pipe, & straight through custom made backbox Blitz FATT timer Bailey Dump valve Straight through inlet plenum Custom cold air snorkus ITG filter (just put it in now) A chip on it's way which should be here in a week or so. It's quite the rocket ship I'd like but a 14 year old that looks like a rover, it does the job! But it's still not as fast as ma van foo'!

Ha ha! I wondered which one of these here critters would be you! Don't make me have to come and throw you helluva far big man!
-
Hi all Been nattering to Jon a bit and thought I'd come on here and put in an appearance as a fellow local scoob owner. Confession I have to make is that it's a Legacy though. Please don't hound me off the forum. Pretty please? As a contribution for starting a new thread on here you should all have a skeet at this site if you haven't seen it already. Helluva funny, and I can think of some prize winning barry style shopping trollies around here that would qualify for one of the flyers on this site! Enjoy anyway! BarryBoys.co.uk
