  1. For those that went to the Rally, what did you think of Car 21 - the very orange Impreza. We finished 11th overall and 8th in class, which we think is not too shabby for our first event in the scoob. All we have to do is get it cleaned and ready for the humberside stages on the 25th March. You can find some pictures at http://westy.smugmug.com/gallery/1269761 regards, Anthony
  2. We went testing at the Bill Gwynne rally school yesterday. The car is a bit of a beast. The testing went very well and I think we should now be ok on the Kent. We had only one slight problem with the clutch slipping, but this seems to be due to the slave cylinder being a little close to the clutch arm. This was fixed with a small amount of spannering, although we will keep an eye on it, just in case. Although we do have a small list of things we need to fix, there is nothing dramatic. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, so I have no pictures, that's what comes of getting up at 5.00am... Anthony

  4. can a moderator please clean up these multiple posts, When I posted the message I got an error, so I did it again in a few seconds as asked, unfortunately you can see I have now posted the response too many times. sorry...
  5. Hi, We have now joined the Subaru Rally fraternity, as we have just purchased a Group N Scoob. Our first event will be the Rally of Kent on the 12th March. 6. Thanks that's the one I wanted. Not Australia then! We are about to have a Group N Subaru built by ATM Sport and I want to ensure that we cover all our bases. It'll be quite a step up from the 106 Gti... cheers, Anthony
  7. Thanks Phil. Not the one I was thinking about. The site had a picture step by step guide to the build process. I've searched here, google, google australia and still having no luck. Maybe I imagined it!!!!?!?!? cheers,
  8. Hi, I'm sure I saw a link on here to a web site in New Zealand or Australia for Subaru rally preparation, it had a full pictorial screen show of the preparation process. If any one knows what the link is please let me know. Anthony
  9. Hi, Anyone hear about the little tussle that happened near West Malling Kent the other day? A guy at work spotted a Escort Cosworth and Impreza Hatchback having a tussle leaving the M20 at the West Malling Junction. He said they then jockeyed with each other up to the traffic lights on the A20. At which point the Escort driver used his initiative to turn right then left and thus avoid the red light. My mate did not know whether it was his cheek or his animated arm waving that incensed the Impreza driver. However it riled him enough so that he went through a red light and chased after the Cossie up the West Malling bypass. When my mate pulled away from the lights he happened upon the Cosworth and Impreza at the side of the road about a mile further on, where the two drivers where knocking seven bells out of each other. Anyone know who it was?
  10. If the cable has broken at the release end and not at the catch in the boot, then trace the release cable under/ to the side of the back seat and break the cable open, to get at the wire inside and try and open the boot by pulling the wire with a pair of pliers, if the cable is broken further back or the remote release catch is off, then you will probably have to remove the seats, or break in to the boot using force. I hope its the cable mate...
  11. Iggy, For around £18K I will sell you my Silver 04 Sti - only 16,800 miles and no clutch conversion! PM me if interested, where-abouts are you Anthony
  12. Green M Plate with Yellow Subaru Decals, right outside the front of my house! Sounds nice.
  13. Catwoman, Open the task bar properties, You get to this by right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting properties. Then select the taskbar tab. Please see the attached picture. Once on the properties, uncheck the top 2 and make sure the third is checked Anthony
  14. Try RF Concepts they have a lot of bullet cameras etc... The also do the geovision system which is a card you put in your pc and will record movement only when it is in a specific area. I got my bullet camera for rallying from them. cheers, Anthony
  15. If you want to guard the intercooler you could get this instead. Intercooler Shield
  16. The best way to increase torque is to increase the "volumetric efficiency" of your engine, this can be done easily by upping boost pressure and/or fuelling of the engine. More air and fuel - more bang. This obviously has side effects, as all of the components in the drive train need to be able to support this loading. another side-effect is an increase in power at higher revs, unless you use a restrictor to limit the air flow and thus the amount of air/fuel you can get in to the engine in a defined amount of time.(see WRC engine 34mm restrictor). Engine tuning is a bit of a black art, and is something I have only done in theory (Therefore there are bound to be people out there who can provide information from there experiences - I have found Dave Walker of Practical Performance Car particularly good at explaining things). All I know is that there is no cheap way of getting loads of extra torque/power. As the most simple mod to change the engine fuelling is a new chip and a new exhaust system circa £1000+
  17. More likely that the calcs would have a curve like below i.e torque drops off as revs rise
  18. BHP=(torque x rpm)/5250 is the actual calc for power. Therefore torque and power are the same at 5250 rpm. Rolling roads measure torque and not power, power is calculated as a result of the turning force of the engine (Torque) Power can be low when torque is high, the maximum power of a WRC car is 300bhp, however, plenty of these cars have 500+ Nm (427lbft) of torque but at low revs 3000rpm. That's why they accelerate so quick, power is good torque is better...
  19. Zippylane - If I'd done something stupid I wouldn't have a problem and a w***er gesture would be appreciated (rather than a ticket!) Socko - It was more like Heavy Metal, his face was a picture of red! I don't think he could get any closer to the screen. (May be it was a heart attack!) ol-git - I'm quite calm now!!!!
  20. I've just had a Policeman mouth at me, animatedly, from inside his car going the other way. All I had done was overtake a van doing 40 mph in a 60 zone, the road ahead was clear (He was following another car at lest 400 yds ahead of me when I overtook). I was not speeding, I overtook completely aware of the road, I did not flor the throttle, I pulled in a good 200 yards before the car coming the other way, I did nothing dangerous, why is it that this PC took it upon himself to decide to give me a verbal(if silent) tirade? I get fed up of this attitude. This is the second time in a matter of weeks that I have been talked to by a PC, the first time I was stopped for pulling in too sharply!, after overtaking on a 40 mph dual carriageway. (Even though to stop me the PC had to ut his blues on and go through a red light). No points yet but if one policeman has a bad day, it would be my word against his in a court of law, who do you think would win????
  21. I got one from Wickes, easy to install, easy to use. £99 I think, but you may need a canopy arm if your garage door is not of a particular type +£49. cheers.
  22. I've just got some parking sensors for my birthday, the full set of 8 (4 up front 4 at the rear, for those numerically challenged) At the moment all I have done is colour coded them. I had the paint made up by our local paint specialist, as I am not sure I trust halfords colours, especially for colours that they do not stock and have to make on site. I'm going to put together a "how to" article and I'll post it on here when I've got the rally car out of the way. The kits come with everything you need including a hole saw and a fancy lcd display, mine has a mute button, for when you are towing (if you would ever do that with your scooby, or you are sat in traffic and the front sensors are working). If you want sensor's you could do worse than try ebay, as you can get some workable solutions for only a little money (£30 for a rear sensor set!) cheers, Ant
  23. Hi, When's your first rally? Are you going to do the local event Barretts Rally of Kent? Looking good so far. I'm currently rebuilding a Pug 106 Gti for the same event, although we only started the build a week ago. Next is the respray... cheers, Anthony
  24. Hi All, I thought I better add my name to the list, as I do live in Kent and have seen some of you out and about. I am lucky enough to have 2 Scoobies, at the moment. MY98 in Reddish Blue and a MY04 WRX Sti in Silver both with Gold Wheels! If you see me about give a wave, I'm in the medway towns. cheers, Anthony
  25. The door lock motor's look something like the attached picture. This one is from Maplin. The drivers door lock will be a driver lock, as this is where the majority of locking occurs! Over time the drive lock may fail due to wear. You can either try and repair or buy new, I think you could probably wire in the Maplin Motor, but it would probably require a knowledge of the wiring and it could become tricky if there is a separate sensor to fire the other door locks. I hope this helps.
