About MikeyD

  1. Yeah, I'll no doubt get the modding bug. But hey, long time dead n all that! I'll try make Wednesday but ill keep that in mind and make one of the meets Glasgow ro? lol
  2. Haha brilliant! Great to hear, without going on a rant about other forms, it's refreshing to be made to feel welcome. Having not popped my flat 4 cheery yet, I'm sure there will be loads of questions lol I'm working wed night but ill see what I can do about getting it off and hopefully pop along
  3. Cheers for the warm welcome guys I try and stick to owners club members classifieds and Pistonheads/Autotrader. Davey, good point about tax, JDM models are good for that too. For UK cars I think it's 23rd March 2006? Sounds like lovely motors you all have, bet both the twin scrolls go like the clappers!! 350/400bhp sounds like where I'd like to be in a road car. Hawks are just beautiful I think so ill be looking or one of them first, if I could get a JDM model for my £10k I'd be more than happy So for clarification on reliability - a UK Hawk STI is ok and any issues should have reared their ugly heads before this point in its life. so key points are if It's been looked after well, serviced regularly and used with premium oils. I guess the gamble with any performance car is whether its been driven with mechanical sympathy, warmed up etc etc
  4. 2 replies in a couple of hours is better than most forums, a few I have been a part of have went very downhill and quiet. Seems different on here =D I'm not too far from Glasgow, work up there so ill have a look into the local meets. I heard the Hawk STI is weak with its 2.5, is that true? I have seen a few for sale and they look so good! I'd prefer a newer car, although if the blob STI is more reliable then I'd probs go for that. I've seen JDM versions with the swin scroll, but I've only ever heard them on YouTube, and not sure if thy sound ad good wih their equal length manifolds. Any clarification on the above would be great, new to the Impreza scene. If it helps on the reliability front, whatever STI I go for wont be crazy power or huge turbo setups. A few mods and 350bhp is probably realistic of where I'd like to be. Mikey
  5. Afternoon SIDC Signed up a while ago, but never actually taken the plunge into Impreza ownership. Been so close at times too. Had performance cars from 17, but now more than ever I feel I need to scratch that flat 4 itch! I'll have somewhere in the region of £10k to spend, however there are so many models available, my brain is frazzled. Any recommendations? It'll be a daily runner, and will be used on track now and again. Forum seems friendly, loads of knowledge on here too which will come in handy. Cheers Mikey.
  6. Cheers, might go to S&S and see what they have. It's a second car, so budget is around £5k and not sure if they'll have anything that cheap! Once I've bought, they'll be plenty of pics!
  7. I'm in Ayrshire. I'd prefer to buy from a dealer, can't see the classic on Eagleshams website. Any other decent dealers?
  8. Yeah never thought of that, cheers. How reliable would a clean STI be? I'm willing to spend on maintenance and fuel, but I've just had a horrid relationship with my Rev 3 Turbo MR2, money pit
  9. STI it is then fellas!! Cheers for the replies! Would I get a decent blob eye STI for 5k?
  10. Cheers Kenny, I'm not that far away I'll perhaps pop along of I can That's what I thought, STI would be far preferred but I'm just not sure on models, there's so many :s The classic looks nice, is there any ones to watch out for or to avoid?
  11. Hi folks, Been wanting to sign up for a while. Seems like a good knowledge base I'm currently between cars, recently sold a Revision 3 MR2 Turbo. I'm wanting to scratch this 4WD Turbo itch!! Question is, with circa £5k to spend (maybe slightly more) what should I buy? Evo V's seem costly to run even compared to an Impreza when performance appears to be similar. Question is then, should I pay more for an STI? Or settle for a WRX and leave some cash for modding? Or I could get a newer WRX or go for a classic STI... What versions are recommended? It will be a daily runner but won't do mega miles, so MPG ain't an issue Cheers Mikey Ps I tried to search, but failed so if this has Ben covered a million and 1 times, I appologise!
